Wanting to adopt a different lifestyle is cool but doing so without becoming a financial burden on others is another thing.

    So, what’s the plan?

    >As more and more blue-collar jobs become automated with things like AI, Robotics and such. People are flocking towards remote positions to make ends meet

Are you sure? Where I’m at, all of the WHITE collar jobs are becoming automated or outsourced, and we’re all flocking to BLUE collar

If the OP can’t work a 9-5, what makes you think the military would be a good answer?

Because as a veteran, I can most certainly promise you, you’ll work more than just 9-5.

Easier said than done. Most people would quit their work if this is possible for most people.

What are your skills for a start? One needs to exchange his skills for modern day currency so that he can support himself in basic neccessities of food, clothing and a roof over himself.

This post is so backwards on every level (and awfully smug, too). Which blue collar jobs do you think are being automated by AI?

    >But yet there still seems to be this thought by the older generation that 9 to 5 is the only way to be stable and make a decent living when that’s simply not true. The internet is the best it ever has been, and opportunities are around every corner it’s just about knowing where to look.

    So what’s your plan, exactly?

So, 9 to 5 isn’t for you. What do you want to change to? Overnights? Evenings? Do shift work? Freelance?

Every alternative option has pros and cons, you are going to have to decide and then people can steer you the right direction.

Honestly just give it time… the system is already starting to crack. The people clinging onto these broken ideologies are starting to retire and soon enough new ones will take its place. You’re already seeing it with work from home careers, and full remote jobs. Those types of opportunities didn’t exist 10-20 years ago. We are in the very opening chapter of a huge technological revolution and we just have to be patient until more of it gets implemented. I’m sure in 20 years things will be incredibly different.

Ok but what’s the plan. Live with mommy and daddy? 😂 this is nice to think about but you’re still a kid and don’t really know how the world works yet.

I wouldn’t say that any person under 70 considers a job stable if it’s a 9-5. I would say that most people would think a 9-5 can be a solid foundation to build from, but even there I think they would say there’s conditions that need to be met, and everything in 2025 is situational. And any person expecting to be working for the next 5 to 50 years should be looking at getting the best job foundation first, and then building from there because even that foundation isn’t stable entirely. While for instance I would say a 9-5 trades job is stable right now, that doesn’t mean your employer won’t change, that you won’t want a different situation, that your needs won’t change to where the job no longer fits

Do you own a car? You’ll need to keep it to sleep in probably. I’ve been hearing people in their early 20s are choosing homelessness over the work grind. If that’s your choice… 🤷‍♀️ not a lot of monetary freedom for passions and life when you’re jobless and homeless. But you’re also not a cog in the machine society has created. Most of us don’t want that role either. If you can hustle for cash you’ll make it for a while. You’ll always be someone’s burden though- if not your family or friends, the county that has to clean up after you camp on the sidewalk.

I’m all for you figuring out a solution to not working 9-5 and finding your happiness in life. But do it in a way that you’re not making others feel responsible for taking care of you. It’s hard to walk by the same homeless young adult regularly and not be giving. I don’t want to see someone that age appear to be suffering, even if it is by choice. Work until you own an RV then figure out how to work remotely. Or something. Just come up with a plan, ya know? It goes south quick if not. Good luck OP

My guy, what’s your definition of a blue collar job? Lol. You think robots are doing toilet replacements? Yeah maybe in another 50 years, but until then, there’s plenty of blue collar work available to keep you busy and it’s not a 9 to 5 schedule, so you got nothing to worry about. Go for it.

A 9 to 5 is slavery ? I know Gen Z has trouble with this concept but words have meaning. Learn them before making a fool out of yourself.

Honestly I’d love 9-5 at this point. Much better than evenings and shift work
