    Accounting, nursing, dental hygiene.

Something stable and likely to be in demand.

I’m a fellow food service worker, and in 2021 I chose to pursue a computer science degree because it was the most in demand field. Well 4 years later I *just graduated* and it’s a fucking useless degree.

So now I’m still a busboy/dishwasher but I can explain algorithmic time complexity to a line cook. I can identify which sorting method is optimal for washing the dishes efficiently 😔🔫

I’m currently in a similar predicament, but I have almost 50k in student loan debt, and I’ve been a farmer for the past 10 years. I’m curious what others have to say. 👀

I would recommend a 2 year, career focused degree from a CC. Most will be either IT or healthcare related. Just look at CCs in your area, browse the programs offered, and that should give you some ideas.

Go the technical route. Find a trade and go for it.

As someone who works in the corporate world, the current job market is rough for college degree holders. Technical jobs are far more in demand and most of them have a more positive job outlook long term without AI taking your job.

I’d say accountant and try to get a job within the healthcare industry. Don’t buy into the whole “AI will take over accounting jobs” bit. Accounting is more than just making sure debits and credits match up.

I would recommend maybe getting a technical degree like in radiology or sonography – something in the health field. Alternatively, you could also become an account (taxes will always exist, anywhere you go). I’ve heard that the trades are in dire need of people and is pretty much an AI proof job if you’re worried about that.

In terms of finding a job right away, the market is extremely rough right now. I even knew a nurse who was having a hard time finding a job because of how badly the healthcare funding cuts in our area were. Just be prepared to do a lot of groundwork with networking when you go back to school. Getting recommendations and finding people who are in the industry you want to work in might be the difference between you finding a job right away or being stuck in the applicant pool.

Nursing is what I’m going for! Healthcare is also a huge field, PA studies is a big one but that requires you get your Master’s and is essentially diet med school, pharmacy techs are in high demand as well, I’d personally recommend you become a radiology tech or a diagnostic medical sonography tech if you have 2 years and don’t much like people, that’s what I would do if I didn’t like people lol.

Also know of a lot of accountants! My mom is one, a lot of people on here are accountants and the pay is solid, if you stick with a company for a while you will have a nice nest egg, and accounting isn’t going away anytime soon.

I’ve also heard becoming an actuary is quite good, pay is in the six figures, you only need a Bachelor’s, and the job market is skyrocketing (though not as much as healthcare).

Lots of active jobs in the healthcare field. Imaging careers are great 2 year programs at community colleges. X-ray, MRI, Nuc Med, Surg Tech, Rad Tech, Ultrasound/Echo. Tons to choose from. I served for over a decade. I’ve been an echo tech for 5 years.

STEM. Basically the only jobs that won’t be automated out or done by an automated robot in the next 10-25 years is going to be the job of the people who maintain all of that. I was a tradesman post military while getting my degree and made maybe 80k in a HCOL area. I got the degree and rapidly blew up to 120k and then 150k.
