Hayatımla ne yapacağımı hiç bilemeyeceğim

26f hala evde yaşıyor. Bekar.

Are you single? Do you have kids/pets? Do you care for parents/relatives? These questions go into the next thought. If you’re not dependent start looking for jobs way outside your area. You’d be surprised. I had to do that when I graduated in 2010 to get a job the market was that bad. I ended up in China, but I knew people who ended up joining fishing crews in Alaska, going to ND to work in the oil fields, or Texas to do the same. I knew a professors daughter who went to lecture at an Indian university—I’m sure the pay was terrible.

By 2014 I had a job at a reputable university in HK lecturing my content, in 2015 I was recruited by firms to sell securities in both NYC and Shanghai. In 2017 I was offered a job on Emirates as a flight attendant for the HK-Bangkok route just by being on a plane with a lot of people speaking Mandarin (I became fluent enough) and at the time none of the attendants spoke Mandarin. In 2018 the same university I continued to work at offered to sponsor my PhD. And, when I came home during Covid I got instantly hired to teach math and fully sponsored to get licensed.

The point is before that, right after college the only thing I could get was a job working at the farmers market one day a week. Then, I got a job as a cook at a fast food restaurant getting 20 hours a week. That was with a masters degree. The only reason I got that job was because my neighbor walked outside his apartment one day flashing $100s trying to be cool and I asked him where i could get a job. I worked my way up to assistant manager working an ungodly amount of hours making $8.35 but then a professor reached out and said he had a connection to work abroad. If I didn’t look outside my hometown/college town I likely would have done very little with my life.

All those slight increases in jobs/offers resulted in a larger network. And, that network is what will truly help you more than anything. Times are tough again, but there are jobs out there. I recently saw some math teaching positions in Alaska. I bet there’s science and I bet they’d certify you. If you get certified you can teach at international schools—doors open.

Life is truly a roller coaster. All those difficult jobs led me to moments I’ll never be able to put a price on. I lived in Hong Kong for 6 years. How many people can say that? Every sunrise/sunset. Being at Angkor Wat watching the sunrise over lush jungle temples. I would never had thought that was possible crawling pushing tea urns across a fast-food restaurant at 3am because I had a kidney stone and I my general manager would have screamed at me if I had called. No, that doesn’t make that situation right but in the end, I saw many many people who left home and found a better life.

My best advice for you is to take one step at a time and start looking outside wherever you are at—if possible.

Nothing will change unless you do something. Bio should have given you the pre reqs for most healthcare programs. A 2 year absn program would give you a 70k+ stable job and you could take travel contracts if you wanted.

Look for laboratory jobs, then apply for a Master’s degree which is just for 2 years and you will only take loans for the 1st semester to get a GPA and the rest can be covered up if you want to become a teaching assistant for undergrad students.

If you’re interested in being a flight attendant, I’d pursue that. I know that we live in the age of the five year plan, but I found that my analysis paralysis regarding what I should do with my life next was cured when I decided to take it one step at a time. People change careers all the time, your short term might lead you to your long term but if you don’t make even the smallest move, you go nowhere.

Alexa Saarenoja on YouTube has a pretty compelling strategy for finding your life’s purpose. Her advice (to create content about your journey to find your purpose) is weirdly effective. It doesn’t matter what you don’t know yet, what matters is that you’ve already identified something you see ahead for your future (traveling). 🫶

    Join the military.

Your degree will get you in Officer’s Candidate School and give you many career opportunities.

I did it at 25. It changed my life. The only mistake I made was not staying in 20 years and retiring at age 45.

See your local Armed Forces Recruiter.
