Well , It really does depend. Statistically, you have a higher probability of getting a higher paying career with a college degree. Obviously there are many many variables to this equation. I personally got a social statistics degree in 2020 and now I work for the government as a statistical analyst. I wouldn’t of got this job without my degree. Conversely some of my friends got different degrees and just work random jobs. It’s important to market yourself well in interviews and to have some good experience/internships prior to career hunting

Six figures by 25. That’s what’s wrong with your generation. Expecting that salary with no experience. Its called paying your dues or start your own company and trust That’s really paying your dues.

“ I’ve heard from a lot of friends and family that there’s no real point in going to college anymore unless it for something you have a special interest in, because it doesn’t really increase your chances of finding a higher paying job” – Not true and they are misleading you. How are their lives by the way with no college degree? 📜

“ What should I do to be making 6 figures by the age of 25 that’s actually realistic? “ – You will realistically not make 6 figures by that age especially with no degree 😂. That is when most people will be finishing their bachelor’s degree and getting started with an ok job that pays a little bit more than the minimum wage.

If you want an easy way out with no college degree, then go to the military!

I was the opposite, I don’t care how much I get paid as long as I like doing it- as I’ll be wasting my entire life doing it.

Go into the building trades and then go to college and major in construction management. You would have trade experience and your college education will teach you how to schedule, create budgets, BIM and manage a construction project. You would make six fugues in salary after few years .

The tradez don’t pay as high as people or the media want them to. If you fall for their lies you might regret it

The frustrating thing is you get a college degree and getting the first job is difficult because companies don’t like to hire truly entry level, and yeah, you may start at like 30-40-50k, and then you’re like, was 4 years of college really worth this?! But long-term, a college degree would be best for salary and career growth. If you major in something like English, history, philosophy (basically anything the arts) it’ll make getting to six figures and over difficult as well. As someone else said, the main alternative to college to get you to six figures is the trades. You’ll still need to do training, and likely you’ll have to find someone to take you as an apprentice (which will take a little effort and patience).

College isn’t for information. It’s for networking, social development, and critical thinking.

If you want 6 figures by 25, your options are doing sales and being very, very good, at it, or getting a degree and being lucky in your field. That’s not a normal income/earning level for that age.

Get education and training. Avoid going into unpayable debt and student loans as much as possible.

Trades might be a better option. If you go to school get a Masters by the time you are 30 or if more technical just right away.

Business administration, and other general degrees.

Anyone that tells you not to go to college is a damn fool. I graduated HS with a 2.0 average, went to community for two years and worked that up to a 4.5, and then ended up going to art school where I now have an amazing career of 25 years as an animator.

Now to your “no point anymore” comment, I could have learned everything technical for my job by just picking up a book and getting to it, but here’s the thing that made it worthwhile for me. First is the connections, they’ve helped me endlessly through either referring me for work, or bouncing ideas off of. If you’re not afraid to speak up and meet new people, you’ll build a lifelong network of friends and colleges that’ll be with you through life, watching each others back. The second is learning the ‘soft skills’ that relate to the first point, ie networking, learning to work with other people, working in a team enviornment without ego, so on and so forth.

So yes, I think college is very, very valuable. I can’t imagine what I would be doing if I didn’t go. You learn so much besides what you’re there to study.

And for going for business, especially so.

If that’s all you care about in a job then it’s super simple. Skip college and go straight into sales.

Whoever is telling you that college doesn’t matter is an idiot. See if you can find the 2020 Dept of Labor Studt detailing income, unemployment and wages. As for being willing to do anything, you’re in for a dreadful life. Imagine working 45-50 years at a job you hate. My advice, join the service, try out a new field or two. Get eligible for the GI Bill, so when you get out, you can get an education (whether college or technical) for free.

Average salary for college grad is 20k more than high school grad on average so over 40 years it’s $800k more.
Stem. Science, technical, engineering, math . Those are the most promising reasons to go to 4 year school.

People who make six figures either acquire specific skills or educational requirements and experience. Unless you are lucky, you won’t be making six figures right out of school. Most people don’t make six figures until they’ve established themselves. Even then, most people in general don’t make six figures. Also based on studies conducted, your friends and parents would be wrong. The average person with a college degree makes more over a lifetime and generally experiences less joblessness. Do not assume that any of this means anything is guaranteed because nothing in life is.

About 50% and maybe more than 50% office jobs will get replaced by AI in 2030.

Mike Rowe just gave an interview on a news channel re: AI. He said he talked to 2 electricians that had been poached from electric companies they were working for, and are now working at AI data centers somewhere in the Midwest maybe? Location I’m not sure of. But they were pulling in $225K and $240K a year i believe, and there is an extreme shortage of electricians nation wide. Something to consider for sure!

Electriction, plumbing, or hvac. By the time you turn 25 if you start becoming an electrician you will make 6 figures for sure. These jobs will never be replaced by AI either, so you have job security on top of that. I went to college on a business degree and regret it cause now I truck and I’m pushing 85k my first year. I also couldn’t stand sitting at an office desk all day in front of a computer, and playing office politics. But do what makes you happy. I only think college is worth it if you major in engineering, medical field, or some type of law degree.
