Does Jesus know why we write copypasta?
He sees us, shitposting into the void. He sees the guy typing, "Have sex? No thanks, I'm too busy gooning with the boys🍆🤏🤟😭😭" for the forty-seventh time that day. He sees the woman sending the Navy SEAL copypasta to her landlord after getting evicted. And He wheeps, but like, not out of disappointment. Out of confusion. Maybe even laughter. Jesus had a sense of humor——He made the platypus, remember?
Some fucking theologians believe that Jesus understands all human motivation because He was both fully divine and fully man. Which means, theoretically, He should understand why we take a perfectly good sentence like “My honest reaction” and slap it under an image of Walter White breakdancing on a pile of flaming diapers. Or a child.
But I think Jesus chooses not to understand. I think He looks down at our memes and says, "
There is sacredness in that ignorance. Thr art of black humor. We don’t write copypasta because it makes sense. We write it because it doesn’t. Because chaos is what we chose to be. Because sometimes, the only appropriate response to life is to spam the Bee Movie script in an iMessage argument.
Would Jesus have written copypasta? Oh yeah a Church did, the Bible···. I don’t know. But I do know He once said, “Let he who is without cringe cast the first ‘based’.” That’s in the book, don't ask me where. IVE SEEN IT. JESUS IS HERE WITH US AND I can feel him. And what about the apostles?
Peter probably tried to write serious theology on scrolls, only for Judas to sneak in at night and add “yo mama so fat” jokes in the margins. Thomas doubted everything—including whether the "I sexually identify as an attack helicopter" copypasta was real. Paul got banned from every Roman forum for being too much of a reply guy. John just kept spamming "Jesus is poggers" in group chats.
In many ways, we are all like them. Each time we hit “paste” on a block of unhinged text, we are bearing witness to the ineffable absurdity of modern existence. Taxes, war, heartbreak, erectile dysfunction—copypasta gives us a way to cope with it all. It's not just shitposting. It's spiritposting.
So the next time you ask yourself, “Does Jesus know why we write copypasta?” just remember: He doesn't need to. He reads it anyway.
Amen.
