I think the thing that helped me commit to a certain path was basically a values assessment, i.e. really figuring out what I wanted out of my next career and then deciding whether the trajectory I was considering was a good fit for the things that mattered to me.
I also think one thing that helped was approaching in it in a way that wasn’t all or nothing. I decided to change careers and become a nurse, so I kept working at my job and took my prerequisite classes in the evenings. This let me evaluate how I was feeling about the change without immediately uprooting my life.
Final thing: I befriended an experienced nurse who has been like 85% of my sanity through the entire process. Being able to bounce my thoughts and anxieties off of someone who knew what she was talking about really made a big difference.
I’m terrible at making choices and constantly scared of picking the wrong thing and regretting it later. When I left my old job? Actually no regrets. I just wish I had done it sooner.
You read a lot about carreers and stuff and you get an idea what about to do .

I just got tired of being that broke, so i looked at dept of labor job stats as far as job growth and availability, compared to what the community colleges closest to me offered, made a list of time to completion/cost, and I’m a nurse now. Totally practical and financial decision. Worked up to a masters as well.
