Stable income **alone** won’t make you happy. It superficially removes one source of worry and anxiety but that’s it. There are so many other factors for happiness. And even that financial security can be a trap. If you have a toxic work environment that makes you sick, not amount of stable income will offset that misery but you will hesitate to quit that job because of the imagined security.

My point: focus on finding a work that does not make you sick. Doesn’t have to be self-fulfillment creative work but it has to be work that you don’t feel a pit in your stomach about on Sunday night. That is so much more important than stable-income.

It can certainly remove some stress of unknowns. But happiness and contentment is internal and what you focus on will drive your happiness. So if you see yourself making money and then wanting to improve parts of life, you will be unhappy if you’re improving those parts.

Money does help subsidize your worrying and contribute to your happiness.

At 20, you should be thinking about your 5 years plan. Meaning, you be looking for colleges and universities to enroll in for Fall 2026. After securing good grades for 2 years, look for internships, summer undergraduate programs, campus employment, part-time jobs anywhere in retail, fast food, restaurant, babysitting, library…. This should give you enough time to graduate with a bachelor’s degree by the time you are 25yo and be able to move out to your first studio/apartment.

Nope – but it does make life a tad easier. That is why I stayed with a job & career I hated because it was stable.

Does it make you happy? No, but it does provide stability, and the provides you with the time and focus it takes to figure out what does make you happy.

Gunna hear it alot, your young, it does get better though, focus on what you can control and spend time figuring out what gives energy. There are always going to be highs and lows in life.

For me it definitely does. I can only speak for myself though. I’ve never had a passion and still don’t, I’d do any work really just for money because my job isn’t my passion it’s something I have to do to get by. I use that money to enjoy my life outside of my job.

Happiness is not the point of life. We are living in a society that is overwhelmed by this message. No one can ever be happy all the time. On a weekly basis you will experience joy, failure, pleasure and pain. In fact, some pain is required to achieve joy.

A stable income is a way to provide yourself security, which is arguably more important than happiness.

So, no one is happy all the time. There are miserable people among the rich and the poor.
