I mean. I have a career + a useless degree. Planning a pivot a career and also have no clue what direction to go 😂 I feel like that is just our generation. Things are brutal out there and have changed a lot in only 5-years.

It sounds like your stress has taken over, and you have built patterns of depression for yourself, as it is something that stress drives many toward. However, life was never about a career. Life will always be given meaning by your perspective of what you are doing every day, so stop using your stress as a weapon against yourself in this manner and building these patterns in your psyche. I do think that this will help you through life. Making a path is hard work, and I think the resources you gained by studying psychology will help you no matter where you end up, even if you can not appreciate that yet. I’ve struggled with my own mental health since I was 6 or 7 years old, and that has disallowed me the stability required for extended schooling (barely graduated high school taking some summer classes and floating through). The amount I have had to learn independently to help myself through these same issues was also originally motivated by wanting to help others through their own mental struggles/a want to be a psychologist, I have also decided that’s not for me. There are far too many restrictions when talking to others and working in that profession, and I am a strong supporter of open and honest communication being the most helpful way to navigate the mental health of others and what is affecting them. Ironically, psychiatrists and therapists are often far too validating for many to see them as trustworthy, but traumatizing when they are not validating enough, etc. It’s an inherently toxic and dishonest method of communication, and often, life changing misdiagnosis happens because of individual perspective differences. Figure out how you need to package your stress for yourself to be productive, and continue from there. I have no idea how old you are, but you seem to be well on your way to getting sick of your own pessimism and seem to have begun the process of rationalizing things past those thoughts. My only advice is to present to yourself, internally, with contradictory information when you know something isn’t necessarily correct. Argue yourself out of patterns of thinking that do not promote your own self-advocacy. If you would not say it to others, why are you treating yourself that way?

It’s ok, just try some different things. Alot of us get degrees and then get a job that has nothing to do with the degree. What about administrative jobs in the medical field or at a private practice or being a psychology teacher if you want to stick with that field? Either way it’s ok, your job doesn’t define you and you can try anything.

I was you 35 years ago. Pretty much the exact same scenario. I ended up stumbling into commissioned sales at an appliance store after 5-10 years and it worked for me, but before that, I had an opportunity to work for the state at a counseling position. I turned it down because it was an hour away and 3rd shift, but it would have offered great benefits including retirement. That may be an option for you. I was offered the job after taking a state Social Work exam. Maybe look into that?

Consider joining the military? With your degree you can be an officer.
