“Going into computers to make a ton of money” is what someone would say if they have literally no fucking idea what they are talking about. Unless you got into MIT or CalTech, good fucking luck with that.

Going into veterinary science is not a good idea unless you have perfect grades and are capable of being an academic weapon. Getting into vet school is even harder than getting into med school, because it’s just as competitive with fewer spots in fewer programs.

definitely put off college until you know what path you want to take. It sounds like going to college would just be a waste of money for you right now.

Community college is only valuable if you do it correctly. CC has certain programs that can get you to careers, but a general community college degree is completely useless.

Either pick a community college program that specifically qualifies you for a career or go to a real college. Majoring in business at a real college can land you some bullshit job in the corporate world, but you’ll struggle to get the same result with a business degree from a community college.

Same goes for grad school admissions. If you have a psychology degree from a community college, it’s harder to get accepted to social work school than if you had a psychology degree from a real college.

Make sure you have a plan and don’t just waste time in general community college classes that don’t prepare you for anything.

I think you need to hear some harsh truths about how bad of a situation you are in right now.

You don’t have the luxury of just taking whatever classes and figuring it out over time

congrats on graduating!! I say just try a bunch of different things. you’ll learn quickly if you hate it or not. for example, right out of HS I went to school for psychology because everyone told me I could be a therapist. I hated it, dropped out. 2ish years later I thought I’d try cosmetology school (esthetician). realized I couldn’t stand touching strangers all day and I didn’t have the personality for it. I thought maybe school just wasn’t for me but after working minimum wage random jobs for the past 5ish years I cannot and will not stay in this cycle forever (going back to school this fall for something that does excite me). so just try different things and see what excites you even if it’s just a little bit!! there’s no timeline or rush for it either. I’ve been out of high school for 6 years now and sometimes I look around at the people around me and feel behind but I know it all panned out the way it was supposed to. your time after hs and your 20s are all for learning about yourself.

Start here if you’ve never had a job:

Get any job, fast food, retail, cleaning, whatever has the lowest barrier-to-entry. (I would recommend against anything that is primarily paid in tips for a first job, whole different vibe) You need to know what it’s like to work any job before you start worrying about a career of any sort. Live with your parents, have them drive you there, set small achievable goals at low stakes jobs. Once you have some work experience you’re going to know what stuff you hate, and what you might find interesting.

If you’ve had a job before:

If you don’t have any real direction it’s not worth spending a lot of money on going to classes because it’s going to be difficult to stay motivated to get the class work done. If you liked what you were doing as a job see if there is a way you can take a step up the ladder from what you were doing, maybe a shift lead or assistant manager. You might find that you like more of the behind the scenes work like ordering materials or setting budgets or minor accounting. Those are all good careers. You might also hate that stuff and then you’ll know to never waste time learning those skills. You can spend a few years figuring yourself out. Going to college at 21 isn’t that much different than going at 18.

Also Yusuke is the best character in P5.

Try to land a city, county, state job or non profit job with just your high school diploma.

There are plenty of roles that can get you in the organization and allow you to move up.

Look on the job board websites for your area and see what’s available.

Gamify the process and apply every 20-30 days until you get a job.

Another option is to choose a sales job. They take anybody. Learn and develop that skill.

Instead of playing video games and watching TV do these:
    1. Go to motor vehicle commission to get the free booklet and study for the computer test. Go register for the test, take it and pass it. You will get a learner permit and start driving with your mom or go to a driving school to learn how to drive. After that, go take the road test. Pass it and yeah congrats you are officially a driver before classes start in September!
    2. Look up list of majors and job opportunities related to those majors in your college/university. Register for the gen ed courses and schedule a meeting with an advisor or counseling. Definitely choose a major that you are passionate about otherwise you will regret it because the major your mom or brother want you to choose, they won’t be doing the work for you.

Rather than what you’re passionate about, what are you good at? Passion will take you a long way if you have something you really love enough to dedicate your life to it, but for most of us who dont have that, it’s better to start with skills. What were your best subjects in school? What are some things you find easy? Are there things that your friends look to you for advice on?

If you don’t have a dream job, that’s perfectly fine. That just frees you to come at a career plan strategically, using your head instead of following your heart. Start by identifying your strengths, then see what well-paying jobs those lead to. As long as it’s something you can put up with every day, it doesn’t need to be based on your hobbies or passions. Instead it can be a source of money to enjoy the things you’re passionate about instead!

Don’t do anything you don’t like. Think for awhile on what you do like, then start working on monetizing it in some way that AI won’t be able to do better in 20 years time
