It sounds like you spend a one-time windfall on setting your basic lifestyle instead of setting your basic lifestyle based on your actual cash flow. This resulted in you living beyond your means.

Unfortunately, our economy is really top-heavy right now, and it’s very hard for people just getting started to afford a lifestyle that was seen as minimalist a generation ago. It’s completely messed up. That being said, you don’t navigate that by living a lifestyle that is more than you can afford, which is what you’ve done.

Getting a second job is a good plan. You also need to cut back spending so that you’re living on 75% of your take-home income. This might mean getting a roommate or otherwise reducing your standard of living… but if you do that you’ll be able to accumulate wealth generating assets and avoid being financially wiped out by an emergency or taking on toxic debt. — That’s how you get out of this mess.

Next time you get a windfall, toss 90% of it on your money pile (which you’ll have because you’re living on 75% of your take-home income) and take 10% of it and do something nice for yourself.

I’m 29 working as a mechanic and I set a hard date to walk away from wrenching at 30. Every time I feel like I’m getting ahead something beats me back down. Looks like Im stuck in this industry for a bit. I’m rooting for ya man.

Hey, fellow welder here also fired for discrimination. My life too has been ruined and I’m constantly trying to claw back to some kind of normalcy. I work 2 jobs that have nothing to do with the 7+ years worth of skills I’ve gained.

I am a hospital CNA working every weekend overnight, and work as a school bus driver during the days. I hate the CNA job so much, but I need it due to the health insurance.

It’s horrific and exhausting, but I too couldn’t afford food or gas to get to fucking work with 1 job.

While getting your CDL B is an uphill battle, it can open doors to getting a more stable, better paying job as a garbage truck or dump truck driver. If you need a 2nd job immediately though (like I did), perhaps look into being a school bus driver.

Lots of companies offer paid training, but make sure there’s nothing in the contract stating you have to stay with them for x amount of months before quitting for something better.

Casinos in multiple states. Requires clean record and drug screen. You would need to complete gaming school to be eligible for hire but some casinos may offer in-house training options.

The inspector gig in this post is always hiring for their areas in Mississippi with some offering company vehicles. You can potentially work anywhere with a port.
