The majority of business owners work more than 40 hours. Making a profitable business is rare; you need a service that people need or a product that’s unique/people like plus the majority also need a bunch of specialized people and paychecks to pay to scale.

You can use the 100k to go back to school and get a degree but more than likely, you’ll still be working 40 hours a week. Some careers are in STEM—usually engineering roles. I never hear about other roles that people get with their stem degree besides in teaching but I’ve seen government job listings. Don’t know if they are actually hiring though—any healthcare degree, and some degrees that revolve around business. There’s 5, but I’m not sure you’ll get far with being a data analyst or marketing. The other 3 are accounting, finance, and economics. Law enforcement is another route. No

There are people who wants to be in your position. And who said you have to do X Y Z ?? Everyone’s different, career path and what age they get into it or leave. And I don’t think anyone can give you tips because what worked for this person might not work for you. But at least you’re working towards something. You can be in a worse situation. So what I can give you now is what ever you’re doing, get really good at it. Because you are spending time doing it already. And if you hate it, that’s good. It means you found out what you don’t like, so focus on other field/career while you perform really well in this current one. Also good job with 100k. Cheers mate.

“The person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, is nothing, and becomes nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he simply cannot
learn, feel, change, grow or love.
Chained by his certitude, he is a slave; he has forfeited his freedom.
Only the person who risks is truly free.”

“If you’re going to try, go all the way. Otherwise, don’t even start. This could mean losing girlfriends, wives, relatives and maybe even your mind. It could mean not eating for three or four days. It could mean freezing on a park bench. It could mean jail. It could mean derision. It could mean mockery—isolation. Isolation is the gift. All the others are a test of your endurance, of how much you really want to do it. And, you’ll do it, despite rejection and the worst odds. And it will be better than anything else you can imagine. If you’re going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It’s the only good fight there is.”
    Charles Bukowski,

Hi, I used to be in a similar position to you. I started in insurance as customer service when I was 19, transitioned to claims the next year, and then rode that up with multiple promotions until I was a high exposure injury/litigation adjuster at 24/25 and incredibly burned out (this was also right about a year into covid along with other stressors). A lot of the same interests, but no clue what to do to make them useful for my life, also didn’t want to do insurance forever and didn’t know my path forward because the role was miserable and being management would’ve been miserable in a different way. I quit that job with 50k saved up, took a break of a couple months, began applying to other roles to get into a new industry, and was getting nothing back. This easily could’ve been a resume issue, but even that aside – the current job market is ROUGH.

I would urge you to do what I didn’t, stick it out as much as you can, considering that everything you do now is an opportunity to make your tomorrow easier. Depending on what your role is, consider pursuing designations. If you’re in a claims role, look for something first party medical related like a PIP (personal injury protection) or Medical payments coverage adjuster. This was by far the least stressful role I had as an adjuster all things considered.

If you’re dead-set on leaving, make sure your resume makes you look as amazing as possible with transferrable skills. Apply and try to get something before leaving. I’m 29 now and facing extreme difficulties getting any interviews much less a job period. I know how much it sucks because I’ve been there, but to me now, nothing sucks more than extended unemployment and not having the means to provide for yourself or any loved ones, and knowing you made the choices that led there hurts worse.

Are you able to setup your own agency as part of the insurance brokerage and recruit downliners? That will be a good start to be self-employed. Once you have found your niche and it is generating income, build upon it instead of testing waters elsewhere.
