23 yaşında Kanadalı olarak makine mühendisliğine gerçekçi bir yol var mı?
Biraz arka plan için: Lisede iyi yapmadım çünkü orada olmak istemedim, bu da büyük bir pişmanlık oldu. Son iki yılda temel seviye kursları aldım, bu yüzden derslerin hiçbiri gerçekten ortaöğretim sonrası kabulde sayılmadı.
Mezun olduktan sonra bir ağır ekipman teknisyeni “Çıraklık Öncesi” programına kaydoldum ve orada tüm hayatım boyunca% 98 ortalama geçerek mekanik olarak eğimli olmuştum. Gerçekten içine girmeyeceğim, ama bu tür bir ortamda çalışmaktan zevk almadım.
Bununla birlikte, daha sonra su ürünleri yetiştiriciliği çiftliklerinden sorumlu bir bakım insanı olmaktan, büyük ölçekli pompalar, oksijen sistemleri, biyo filtrelerle çalışmaktan ve temel olarak sadece iyi işleyen bir sisteme giden yolu üretmekten keyif aldım. Artık kendimi borçsuz okula koyabileceğime göre, kendimi makine mühendisliği hakkında düşünürken, otomotiv mühendisliğine vurgu yaparak – umarım motor sporları endüstrisinde çalışmaya yol açıyorum. Bunun çoğunun Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ve Avrupa’da gerçekleştiğini anlıyorum ve beni nereye götürdüğü ve hatta Kanada dışında okula gitmede iyiyim. Arabalara girdim ve temelde tüm hayatım boyunca tekerleklerle bir şey var ve sürekli olarak geleneksel bir otomotiv teknisyeni rolünde olmasa da, kendimi onlarla çalışmayı ve etrafında olmayı düşünürken buldum. Onu orada bırakacağım, ama tüm bunlar temelde başlıktaki soruyu ifade ediyor.

Canadian engineering schools are well known among U.S. automotive companies, so I don’t recommend coming here (U.S.) for your degree unless you’re already wealthy.
Mechanical engineering at the university level involves lots of calculus, physics, and computer lab exercises. It’s more around understanding and applying engineering principles so you can design machines, not necessarily work with machines. Would that be something you’re interested in?
I was in a similar place when I was about your age, a long time ago. An option I would have seriously considered had I known more are the educational path/options for mech engineering offered by the Cdn Armed Forces. You mentioned you have military experience so maybe this is a good fit. IIRC engineering gets enlisted for officer training, and there are several perks including covering tuition and also paying you while you go to school, in addition to gaining very solid experience.
There’s a huge automotive industry in Ontario. It’s right by Detroit after all. Idk about “motorsports” though.
Canadian Engineering degrees are respected and completely standardized. If you stay in Canada, engineering from any of the universities will be fine.
Studying engineering in the US is idiotic unless you get into an Ivy league, even then, the prestige probably isn’t worth it. You can network anywhere.
If you want to go to the US/international, I imagine UofT or UBC will be more respected/recognized. But I highly doubt people will care. People have still heard of Queens, York, McGill, UAlberta, and they still respect them.
I imagine working in motorsports is highly competitive, just like working on designing rockets. This may mean lower salaries/worse work-life balance. Maybe find some people in the industry to ask about this specifically. I’m just guessing.
If your high school grades are low, there are community college transfer programs. Do 1 year of engineering at a small school and then transfer to the big university. They’ll probably have lower standards for high school GPA.
I think mechanical engineering is oversaturated in general right now though, especially in Ontario, and especially in automotive. Talk to some new grads to see how hard it is to actually find a job.
Remember, older people graduated in a completely different market, take their advice, but get some more updated advice too.
