A few things worth clarifying since I see a lot of confusion about this:
1. Google doesn’t penalize AI content — it penalizes scaled content, whether that’s human-written, AI-generated, or “humanized.”
2. LLMs aren’t search engines. They don’t have an index, they don’t crawl the web, and they don’t learn about your brand through training. They work through something called Query Fan Out, which is a completely different process.
3. If your brand isn’t being cited by AI tools, it’s probably because you’re assuming the prompt = the query. It doesn’t. There’s actually a lot of info on how to address this that’s been posted here before.
4. LLMs don’t cite sources the way a research paper does — that’s just not how they work.
And if you don’t want to take anyone’s word for it, Ahrefs just published a study looking at 1.4 million results that gets into a lot of this.
