If you do go to college, go for STEM. Anything outside that is an education difficult to market. This is why there are so many people unemployed with undergrads or even masters about very niche or obscure studies.

My coworker has a bachelor’s in Japanese culture. What the hell is she gonna do with that? That’s why she’s just an admin at our office.

As someone who finished engineering school 35 years ago, I think that particular degree is still worth pursuing. Back in the early 2000s, the whole Maker movement was booming, along with coding bootcamps. Suddenly, everyone was a “self-taught engineer,” so why bother with an engineering degree anymore? As AI eliminates jobs, employers will, IMO, become more picky about whether or not someone went through the effort to pursue engineering for four very long, difficult years, and the “self taught engineers” will be weeded out.

In actual practice, you don’t end up using much, if any, of the material you learned in engineering school, but it is a filter of sorts.

This too I want to do CAD but with ai replacing different works it makes seeing a career confusing.

Like you got people that say you don’t learn it your left behind, then others saying it’s not a replacement for humans.

If ai can make stuff (computer assets) how does one truly understand what ai can’t do?

I guess school has some answers. Most people just hang on that response

I’ve known a few engineers who worked in mining, nuclear power, oil extraction and aircraft(Boeing). They ALL carved out challenging careers, married great wives and are enjoying retirement to the fullest extent.

The course work will compel you to explore the limits of your intelligence and fortitude – you aren’t alone in this. Reading Ellis’ book “*Becoming a Master Student”* (Amazon) will help ensure you’re applying your full potential. (Explore scholarships)

Combining a full fledged engineering degree with a robust imagination will open doors you didn’t know existed. Use A.I. sparingly as a tool to solve problems so as to avoid dependence.

(p.s. University is a good place to partner up.)
