I am on my second job in my career path and I genuinely think I got my second job by pure luck and knowing the right people. I’ve thrown my resume at over 100 different job listings before getting this job and maybe scored three real interviews which went absolutely nowhere and I got ghosted or they revealed the pay during the interview and I left the interview immediately. The job market is so terrible and I can’t even be upset with people for not trying anymore.

    > I firmly believe there’s more dignity in being unemployed than being underemployed.

I’m going to need to be honest with you. Your belief is stupid, childish, entitled, short sighted, and you really should be embarrassed for having expressed it.

Supporting yourself with a honest job is respectable. Pretending like you’re too good to work a regular job is just pathetic.

    >>there’s more dignity in being unemployed than being underemployed.
LOL. No. That’s an incredibly ignorant approach to employment

    >>I even got an advanced degree and I remain unemployable.
Based on the content of this post, I’m going to wager that you’re not exactly the most pleasant person to be around, which would play a role in being “unemployable”. There are also a myriad of other factors that could be coming into play that you don’t address (what your degree is in, what country your in and if you can legally work in it, what experience you already have in the field, what experience you have in general, etc).

This whole post just smacks of “I didn’t get exactly what I wanted immediately, so I’m giving up”

I spent 10 years in my industry starting at 19k and ending at 25k. Then one day, I blagged a promotion and got a pretty high 6 figure salary practically overnight. Of course imposter syndrome set it in high gear and I fully expected to be caught out within a month if not a week. 5 years later, I now live in a paid off house, and have a pretty good stocks portfolio. I still expect to be fired at anytime.

It doesnt work that way. I was underpaid too in my opinion but that didnt stop me from clugging another two side hustles while on the lookout for something better. It came in the form of business setup with other partners with the experience i gained from the underpaid firm. The underpaying former boss eventually became my biggest client. So it was not a zero sum game.

the sentiment of someone that has no responsibilities. theres more dignity working hard at a menial job than to remian unemployed if you’re trying to provide a decent life to your loved ones.

couldnt imagine convincing them to eat ramen with me living in a car than to get a cashier job

Life working is miserable, life not working is miserable. We can never avoid difficulty no matter where we go.

Have you gotten your resume looked at? How’s your approach? Have you gotten any feedback at all from what you’ve sent out?

I wouldn’t say I was especially qualified for my current job when I first started. But I got extremely fortunate. It’s my first job in my career path and there were easily plenty of people who had more impressive credentials. I only had some certifications, my associate’s degree, and work experience. Yet in each area mentioned, there were easily more people who had better qualifications. All I did was apply and be in the right place at the right time when the hiring manager finally got back to me months after I first did.

Getting a job is about plenty of variables, not just how qualified you are.

I disagree with this sentiment. I’d much rather work a $15/hr job living in a van and having my own money and my own place to live. Rather than giving up on myself and society in general.

Look up van life or overemployed. Plenty people find ways to get ahead, despite the market being as terrible as it is. I feel for you and am in the same boat but the market won’t be like this forever, there’s always a turning point.

For me, if I had stuck in there and kept working hard to find my place in this world. I would’ve been much further ahead than I am now. Things get better but gradually and slowly instead of all at once.

I hear what you’re saying but being able to save up even a little money would help you tremendously down the road and the best part is you don’t even have to work a shitty job to do it. There are tons of driver jobs, stockers, CDL, basic maintenance jobs, where you are left alone to do your work and then go home.

It’s possible to get ahead but it’ll take time. Good luck!

“People can’t make a living with a 6 figure salary!”

The 6 figure salary in high tax state – $100,000.01

It’s always going to be miserable or hard or aggravating or disappointing even when you have six figures. They’ll just be new things to complain about but I’d rather complain in a warm house with a working vehicle while not being forced to eat processed food. There’s never gonna be a time when doing nothing with yourself will feel better that actually doing ANYTHING.
