Intelligence will not be the thing to stop or enable you, your determination is. There are many smart people out there, but great things are always the result of compound good work.

Intelligence is a set physical characteristic, kinda like how your height. You can do things to improve cognitive functioning. Such as finding ways to memorize things efficiently, learning new skills ect. But the rate of how you internalize and or come to an understanding of things is determined by your intelligence. “Intelligence is being able to solve complicated, abstract and logical problems” if such problems come easy to you then there is no worry, but if such is a problem then maybe your therapist is right.

How asinine (on your therapist’s part)! I’m glad that you don’t seem to have internalized their remark – it’s baseless, and you should probably fire the therapist.

Great therapists are second-to-none but I’ve noticed that those who lack professionalism, boundaries, and proper scope of practice often devolve from evidence and solutions-based practice to “I’m a life coach and can give advice about matters that I am in no way qualified to speak on.“ I read a post from someone in another sub whose therapist (who has no medical training!) suggested that the patient have a baby in order to “cure” a chronic illness.

I have a learning disability characterized by a marked discrepancy in verbal and visual-spatial intelligence and know many people who have gone into the sciences.

Medicine is science based, but being a doctor is a lot different than being a scientist. And I don’t think it makes sense to give up on that dream – based on a comment from a therapist. On the other hand it might be interesting to ask your therapist why they might be discouraging you from applying to med school. (maybe it’s just a misunderstanding – or maybe they have some other ideas that may or may not be relevant.)

This shouldn’t come from a therapist.

Why are you asking about this here ? Very few if any people commenting practice medicine.

My peers that became physicians did not ever get Bs in a stem class that I ever recalled. But don’t take my word for it, ask in the med school admission subs where people will actually be somewhat educated on this topic.

It just seems like you’re fishing for affirmation here because you posted one sentence with very little context. I’m sure if the therapist was here they’d have quite a different context for that quote.
