   I say this to like everyone but there’s always insurance. Get licensed, start at an agency, sell for a year or so, make good connections then jump to the company side. Focus on commercial lines. You might be interested in loss control and risk management. But it’s a huge industry really, lots of avenues. Work life balance is really not bad depending on what you do.

   Do you have an AA or bachelors at all?

   The good news is you have skills and experience, so while wanting to switch is totally understandable, you still have options in the meantime.

   I say this a lot, and don’t know where you’re at, but an option people don’t know about is flight dispatch. Pay’s not amazing, but sufficient. It’s it’s own course as opposed to a degree, work in an air conditioned office, and get flight benefits

   You might also consider home inspection. Home inspectors are in great demand. From what I understand, the program is pretty stringent and you have to have a mentor and shadow a licensed home inspector for quite some time before you are eligible to work on your own.

   You don’t sound stuck at all. You sound skilled. There is a lot you could do where your experiences, problem-solving and discipline will be more valuable than a long, formal education. As to a career in tech, take this advice for what it is, the words of some guy on the internet who hasn’t worked since 2012, but most of my career was in IT and I am launching a software company next month. If you want a stable career in tech that starts and continues smoothly while the world economy turns itself upside down and AI changes everything, literally everything about how we interact with technology, stay away from programming, app building, and website design. Focus on what all of those things have in common, the architecture, the servers, the networks, and maintenance. Not sexy, won’t make you a millionaire overnight, will keep a paycheck coming in to clean hands. The faster, more expensive route would be to take classes targeting specific certifications and you will want those eventually regardless, but it is possible and easier than ever to educate yourself on the material and enter the field with the more general ones that aren’t difficult or time-consuming to achieve.

   White collar is usually falls into sales, finance, accounting, marketing, HR, legal, supply chain, R&D, + a few others depending on industry. It’s really hard to get into one of these departments without some kind of prior formal education/training. Your first step is probably trying to figure out 1.) what type of work do you like to do (from the above) and 2.) what type of industry do you feel would be interesting to work in.

   Right now, just wanting to not do manual labor is way too broad to suggest any specific course of action.
