yea i think for quantitative, research-heavy posts, the floor is higher than people expect. Once you factor in data collection, analysis, citations, and visuals, very low budgets usually break somewhere. Quality does improve with spend up to a point, but the biggest jump is going from cheap writing to someone who actually understands the data. honestly i think below that threshold, it tends to look polished but shallow, which is worse than publishing less.

Some subjects are easier to learn than others – are we talking quantum computing, or interior decor? This will impact the price.
I’d expect to pay around $1k-$1.5k per post with an agency, assuming you’re not asking them to run any polls or independent studies.
A freelancer might charge $500-$750ish, or even less.
For these types of projects, I’m a huge fan of reaching out to see if reporters in any given space are taking on corporate freelance projects (white label, or otherwise). SO MANY journalists are either out of work or low on work right now.
I can’t remember the last time I asked a reporter contact for help in this way, and they’ve said no.
The hard part is finding someone who cares enough to learn what they need to become an expert in the space themselves. Recruiting reporters who are already familiar with the source material skips a step and helps ensure quality IME.
