Targeting misspelled words is a long tail strategy for getting traffic when you would have more trouble ranking for the correct spellings.
As long as the variations don’t change the intent, Google will figure it out.
If you do a search for the two variations, you will likely see the exact same, or very nearly exact same, pages ranking at the top, and they probably do not target both variations in their content.
