1 link can make a difference sure, but if your competitors have the same link not so much
It’s not the number of links that matter, it’s the quality of links.
However, for a local business there’s easily 50-100 low hanging free links you can grab.
These are foundational links that should absolutely move the needle.
Is your Google business profile up to date and set up properly?
Do you have reviews?
My most effective backlink strategy is to ignore DA and DR and do what makes sense. Exchanging backlinks is about relationship building. I exchanged links with people in similar niches and similar locations.
Take a jewelry website and a wedding website for example. This is a perfect combination for a link exchange. It absolutely doesn’t matter what DA and DR is or any other third party vanity metrics. What matters is people looking for engagement rings and wedding rings are also looking for information about weddings and visa versa.
Now to be clear, similar niches don’t matter in SEO. However, why not try to increase your income as you increase your search engine ranking?
Think for yourself and do what makes sense.
It’s pretty tough to give proper feedback through a Reddit comment but unless that link is coming from an extremely high authority domain with tons of traffic – I don’t think it’s worth it.
Especially if you have to continue to pay for that link every year. Who’s to say that website won’t get sold and that your link could disappear during that year with no one to reach out to?
Why not reach out to other business owners in your local area that would be open to exchanging links? That way everyone wins. Or even if you have friends or family that have websites, why not get a link from them and link back to them?
In my opinion you should do everything you can organically before you begin to pay for backlinks (if you plan to).
Even just putting together a proper content strategy can help you rank for a lot of keywords that you might not think you could without backlinks. If there is enough of a keyword gap you can rank for plenty of things.
Also maybe consider running some local service ads or Google ads if the cost per click isn’t too high and you have a budget for it. And of course don’t sleep on social media or creating a unique brand that differentiates and really stands out from your local competitors. That can go a long way.
Look up corner stoning, the seo avalanche technique.
It’s more than just backlinks. Search Engines are looking for many types of authority singles, and backlinks are only one of them.
I have placed *one* link once for a site and I saw a measurable difference. I didn’t pay for the link. But that may not always be true depending on many factors.
Instead of spending those thousands of dollars on backlinks in where the is no guarantee, work with a Digital Public Relations individual who understands the important of Authority for websites. They should help develop a plan and reach out to their network to expose possibilities to have articles, interviews, podcasts, etc., placed in targeted areas to develop that authority.
$300 a year for any type of promotion isn’t going to be effective.
One thing people seem to forget is backlink history is important.
If you get 1 link per month then yes it can help. But 1 link on it’s own – you may get an initial boost but if you do nothing after that, that 1 link will lose value over time.
There’s a whole Google patent on how the history of backlinks impacts rankings. I don’t know how applicable it still is, except that it is still important. Likely not as important as it once was, now that link quality is more of a factor, but it’s still another factor to consider.
Sure, if it is sending traffic itself.
You need zero money. You just need to link to others, merited, and they will link to you.
Look up backlink exchange.
