This seems like the logical next step for them. I would assume Google will either make Chrome something similar or complete create a new AI based browser.
Less competition, less users, another potential source of traffic and clicks, alternative to Google having 90% market share, overall, I dont think its a bad thing but I dont think it will do much
Im not sure what it would take to dethrone Google, Bing seemed like the strongest contender but even Bing places works like something a University student setup for their final year project to copy GBPs…
I already said it yesterday: it’s probably a huge mistake by OpenAI. There’s absolutely no way they can take even a bite of Google’s market share. Bing can’t, and OpenAI would now compete with their main data source (Bing) and their main infrastructure provider (Google) ?
Yeah, sure.
But are they going to just be using Google as the baseline for their rankings and results?
OpenAI is hemorrhaging money, which is fine for now, but it could be in a precarious spot if it loses its golden child crown for a moment.

Interesting. I know that in their case they’ve had to make deals with multiple orgs to use their content so I do wonder how it would surface answers and so forth and what content it would be using. We’re already seeing changes from zero click searches on the rise on Google and ChatGPT is definitely a market leader, though not even the best AI tool, so if could cause some damage.
