1. Perplexity is a wrapper, not an LLM
2. Perplexity is not an SEO tool
3. Perplexity doesnt fetch and analyze HTML files
I would completely disregard it. For example – I have perplexity saying I am the king of SEO/God of SEO….
Google works on ranking text – what it needs from a file:
1. A title – it gets this from the literal file name (aka the slug) and page title
2. Text – it gets this from your html and grabs it as text
I know Web Devs have this idea that Google renders web pages and looks at UX/UI – and I know this because no web devs have ever replied to me saying this because they find it so repulsive but if you think google is indexing and rendering every page then the deusion is one-sided and it aint me
Yes, Google “can” render pages and might do so if it thinks the text is not in the page it fetches but that the JS fetches text from an api call and it can take up to a month to do so – but 99% of pages are getting index purely on the body element whether it even loads as html or not (i.e. it could be completely broken)
Google doesnt care about HTML quality, code or standards nor does it care what your page looks like
Google works on PageRank – its just that simple, its always been that way, I’m sorry that people invent sutff to overcomplicate it but perplexity is not the an SEO analysis tool. Its a neural network
# here’s a test you should do with perplexity
If you ask Perplexity how it crawls and indexes content – it will give you a lovely story – but if you look at the sources – only 1 of them is Perplexity. The others are from SEO agencies. One of them is DayDream who made up a story about Perplexity indexing content and reading schema and other BS and citing 12-14 sources – none of which support this. One other source says that perplexity is a wrapper and doesnt do any of these and perplexity just tries to synthesisze the different arguements. I know – because one of them is my agency and I did it on purpose to prove this point.
When people read about SEO – they seem to just trust the source WITHOUT any due diligence or testing. SEO is NOT about what makes “sense” – the peoiple writing “logical” arguments for how they want SEO to work do not impact the Google search team. So you need to be able to test and ask for evidence – thats the most basic thing missing in SEO
