There are a few ways to find them.
The.Domain.name (it’s a site) has a great way to find what you’re looking for. I’ve used it to find a lot of good domains for linking purposes.
You can take the expired domain lists and expiring list (pending delete list) and run it through a bulk link checker like majestic’s bulk tool. I do that quite often and then remove the 0 trust flow domains and sort by topic of what I’m looking for.
The third way is a bit more time consuming but I was able to find 8 really good domains that I hand reg because they were available for registration. What you do is start backwards. Don’t start with the domain or an expired list. Look for the good links first, like really good links that competitors have. In one niche industry, I found the site of a major organization that all the companies belong to. The site lists all the members and links out to the members sites. I crawled that entire organization’s site with screaming frog SEO spider, looking for external links only, specifically that had a result of “dns lookup failed”, meaning that the domain was not registered. I took that list, ran it through a bulk link checker and ended up with 8 really good domains with a ton of backlinks.
So, the only thing I look for as far as metrics go is first the trust flow of the domain, then historical trust flow. Then I look at the links themselves, then the anchor text of links to make sure the domain isn’t a burned domain. It could have expired before, a spammer burnt that domain, then they let it expire again since it’s now worthless.
Better to build from scratch.
We never know how the old website is being black marked. I don’t want to spend my time building SEO only to realised it is being black marked.
SEO is not difficult if you do it the right way.
