Yaratıcı dallar neden ciddiye alınmıyor?
Üniversitede film yapımcılığı okuyorum. Ve tatillerde ailemle yaptığım konuşmalar çok stresliydi. Ne zaman aile üyelerime sinema okuduğumu söylesem, onlar şöyle diyorlar: "Yedekleme planınız nedir?", "Yapay zekanın işini elinden almasından korkmuyor musun?", "Netflix’in Warner Bros.’u satın aldığını duydunuz mu?", "Şimdi bana iyi bir film yap, sonra sana inanacağım!"Ve "Branşınızı işletmeye çevirseniz iyi olur, yoksa para kazanamazsınız!"
Tüm bu yorumlar çok saçma çünkü insanlar, sanatsal herhangi bir şeyde, yetenekli insanlar tarafından yapılan sıkı çalışmayı göz ardı ediyorlar. "sahte işler". (Sadece filmler değil, aynı zamanda müzik, kitap, moda, makyaj, reklam, web siteleri, fotoğrafçılık vb.) Sadece ailenizden değil, aynı zamanda eğitim sisteminden de bahsediyorum (IE öğretmenleri ve rehberlik danışmanları). Yaptığı tek şey insanları hayallerinin peşinden gitmekten caydırmak ve daha güvenli seçeneği seçmek çünkü herkes onlara bunu yapmalarını söylüyor.
Evet, işin mali tarafının farkındayım. Ancak şu anda, hangi okula gittiğinize veya hangi diplomaya sahip olduğunuza değil, becerilerinize ve deneyiminize önem veren bir iş gücüne tanık oluyoruz. Bu sadece yaratıcı alanlarda değil, diğer sektörlerde de geçerli. Bu kariyer yollarının öyle görülmesinden nefret ediyorum. "gerçekçi olmayan"gerçekçi olanlar ise kimsenin istemediği şeylerdir. Toplumun anlamadığı şey, faturaları ödediğiniz sürece istediğinizi yapmanıza izin verilmesidir. Ve sanatta kariyer yapmanın imkânsız olduğunu söyleseler bile önemli olan tutkunuzun, eğer talep varsa, karşılığının iyi olmasıdır.

Unfortunately jobs are paid based on a lot of different factors, sometimes skill, effort, or talent are not the leading ones. For creative or artistic jobs, there may not be many and the jobs that there are may pay poorly. People in your family recognize this reality and want you to be comfortable financially. These days, even a solid business job may not be sufficient to pay the bills.
This is just my guess. But the most creative people I’ve ever met couldn’t be bothered to sit in school on their passion subject, they are too busy creating. I don’t know anyone in film school, but this mostly applies to people I know in music and fine art.
The real irony is that people read these posts and think creative major = creative job = low paid. The skills you acquire with, for instance, an English degree, are skills that are applicable to a great majority of careers, many of which aren’t considered creative. It just requires a little…creativity to see it.
The point is to refuse to be discouraged. “Yes, I’m majoring in music/theater/dance, and I have good reasons for it and I’m excited to graduate and get on with life, and I don’t expect you to fully understand it Uncle Glen because you spent your entire life working on car engines.”
I mean, a lot of people just love to spout off opinions on everything. Did you just buy a Ford? Someone will tell you “Fords suck.” Having sushi tonight? Someone can’t wait to tell you how they can’t stand sushi. The trick is to turn off the haters and seek the handful of good people who actually know what’s up.
My grandad used to have a saying “what are you going to do open a *creative major* store?”
Because these degrees typically have poor job prospects and lower barriers to entry.
