Sağlık mı mühendislik mi?
29 ay üniversiteyi tarih bölümünden dereceyle bitirdim ve Asya’da bir esl öğretmeni olmak istediÄŸimi sanıyordum ama ÅŸimdi fark ediyorum ki bu hayatta nasıl daha fazla para kazanacağımı bulmam gerekiyor, aksi takdirde öğretmenler Asya’da veya ABD’de yeterince kazanmadığından bağımsız olabileceÄŸimi düşünmüyorum. Ayrıca hayatımda ilk kez yeni bir araba, kıyafet, oyuncak gibi daha önce hiç umursamadığım ÅŸeyleri gerçekten istiyorum. Okula dönmeyi düşündüm Hiçbir zaman gerçekten hiçbir ÅŸeye tutkum olmadı bu yüzden ne yapacağımı bulmaya çalışmak zor oldu Sadece nihai hedefimin zorlu piyasaya raÄŸmen bir iÅŸ bulabilmek ve kazancımı artırmaya devam edebilmek olduÄŸunu biliyorum. HemÅŸirelikte pek çok iÅŸ olduÄŸunu biliyorum ve mühendislikte de var ama AI’dan biraz korkuyorum ve ayrıca yeterince akıllı olup olmadığımdan ya da bunu yapacak iÅŸ ahlakına sahip olup olmadığımdan emin deÄŸilim ama birkaç yıldır bu konu üzerinde düşünüyorum ve bana çok etkileyici geliyor. Depends on the kind of engineering you’re thinking about. If it’s software engineering, no, that career is very saturated and it’s very difficult to find entry-level jobs. If, however, you mean the traditional engineering fields (mechanical, electrical, chemical, and civil/structural), then the “price of entry” is a 4-year B.S. degree in engineering. The schooling is very heavy in math, physics, and chemistry, but it is a good field for building a solid career. Even in tough times, when hiring slows down a little, there is still a need for that skill and it won’t get replaced by AI. Some of the engineering tasks may be augmented by AI, but engineering is mostly about solving real-world problems. A lot of these problems are a result of people having to interface with whatever gets designed or built, and AI is never going to be able to resolve those. Same for trying to offshore engineering tasks. Various firms have tried to offshore designing, but it always needs a human in the field to recognize what doesn’t work and come up with a fix. Furthermore, the push to automate machines and processes requires engineering to set these up at the time of initial installation, to fine-tune for productivity, and to keep it all operating at peak efficiency.
I’m currently in nursing school. I would say go for nursing. AI can’t do what we do so job security is absolute. You start as a new grad making a good living wage and only go up from there. There’s so much you can do, you can even work from home after a few years in the hospital (what I plan to do) and you can get ur RN in 2 years. I feel very secure in my future job, personally. That being said, nursing school absolutely sucks and is like one long hazing process lmao
It might help volunteer in a hospital before you decide on healthcare. It is a tough field unless you care a lot about patients. Engineering is just about discipline if you are competent at math. And sometimes competency in math is also related to discipline.
Shadowing an engineer could help as well to see what their work actually involves. Plenty of people will be willing to at explain the nature of their work over coffee. If that is not an option, consider the engineering discipline you are interested in, and do a small project.
For example, if you are interested in electrical engineering, buy an arduino kit and try doing small projects. If it sparks your interest and you have an aptitude for it, it may be worth pursuing.
I used to ask Reddit questions like this, but you don’t want to trust random strangers to inform your decision. At the end of the day, action resolves uncertainty way more than analysis.
