I was in the same boat as you bro and now I’m 28 and hate my life. Here’s my advice:

    – Have no passion for anything and simply want money? Skip college and go into construction. Preferably, work with a general contractor and learn all different types of trades. Then start your own company and you’ll not only learn a skill, but you can also make some great money. If you hate business ownership, then do your best to find a trade you’ll like and join a union. College will be a total waste of time and you’ll likely end up with a degree that won’t have any good job prospects after. Or go into the Air Force. Get a good score on the ASVAB and get a job you’re interested in. You’ll get free housing, great benefits, and you’ll get retirement. I had a friend who I never thought would join. She was the exact definition of a diva but she went in and said it was the best decision she made. The Air Force/Space Force treats you far better than other branches so she was getting coffee served to her during meetings, had nice housing, and she got to stay in nice hotels during deployments. Other branches won’t do this so if you like the sound of that, study hard for that ASVAB and it’ll open doors to more jobs with that lifestyle.

    – Can’t do construction or military for a whatever reason? Get a two year degree at a community college. Look at what pays well in your area. X-ray tech, air traffic control, etc. all pay great in places like California and the loans aren’t bad.

    – Don’t get a 4 year degree unless you’re truly passionate about something. Whether that be law, medicine, etc. stuff you need a degree for. Everyone defaults to business but you’ll have a miserable life and make no more than the other professions I mentioned, you might even make less. Only go into business if you’re a numbers nerd and get excited when you learn new Excel formulas.

    – There’s also sales but I wouldn’t recommend it. Everyone glorifies it but I worked with sales reps at a surgery center and the inconsistency they would have with their paychecks was crazy. They’d sometimes go months without a check because companies would take their time processing the bill for the product they sold and they wouldn’t get their commission check until the payment went through. I told them that they’re a special breed because I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night knowing my checks may or may not go through. They also had spouses that worked to fill in those paycheck gaps.

    – You could also start your own business. Make a product and sell it at farmers markets and work up from there. Start a service business and grow your team little by little. It’ll be an absolute grind at the start but once you get the ball rolling, you can make a good living. I have a friend that started a school based business and he suffered a ton at the start and worked 18 hour days. He now makes $500k and keeps growing. You need that drive to work hard for no reward though so if you don’t have that, don’t do it.

Find out what you’re good at and shadow people in those fields. Literally just email small companies and ask to shadow. You’ll get at least a few bites. I did this when I was interested in dentistry and I got to shadow a dentist which was cool.

Simply saying, “I thought about computer science” is crazy. It requires so much work and you need some sort of passion for learning and developing new code or else you won’t make it, especially with how competitive it is.

I’m in the same boat don’t worry! I graduated in June, taking a gap year just working in restaurants and traveling. My biggest tip is just figure out what you love. I’ve loved cars for quite some time so starting to lean in to looking about being a mechanic. Figure out what kind of work you want to do, office job, blue collar, etc. Do you like people? Do you like being active? Are busy environments your thing?
