Time to enlist in the military and move on with your life. Bro, at least try the Coast Guard or the Air Force.

In an ideal world (though one that still required you work), what kind of job would you be doing?

Try doing the IKIGAI and RIASEC tests to explore paths and figure out which career path could suit you.

Out of that personal exercise, you may follow through JP’s Self Authoring programme to create a life plan.

It’s literally what I did. I had emigrated to Ireland from the Canary Islands and nowadays I can work remote for my own business, whereas before I couldn’t do anything.

Google the sources: IKIGAI Test, RIASEC (Hollander Code) and JP Self Authoring Suite.

    Good luck, fella!

How cant you see yourself in law enforcement when you haven’t given it a shot? You’re young bro just try it then if you actually don’t like it.. pivot with the experience.

The associate’s degree thing is actually more useful than you think — not for law enforcement, but for adjacent stuff. Loss prevention, compliance, corporate security, insurance investigation, paralegal work. None of those require you to be a cop.

The application thing is worth paying attention to though. Chickening out mid-application isn’t really about the jobs — it’s about not believing you’d get them anyway. That’s the thing to work on, because it’ll follow you into any field.

What parts of the Home Depot job are you least miserable doing? Helping customers figure things out? Organizing stuff? Managing inventory? There’s usually something, and it’s a faster path to “what next” than starting from scratch.

First you are still young and stop thinking that it’s so late in life. Stop comparing yourself to others it is not helpful and it will never be. 2 opportunity does not just come to people you have to go find it. Also, stop thinking about what you want to do for the rest of your life. Most people change their minds to find something you can do for the next 5 to 10 years and then keep building on that or you can always change your careers. I think starting with a trade is the best idea. Use your time and knowledge that you have at home Depot to see what you can do next you have contractors, plumbers, electricians, painters and I am sure a lot of other people are coming into your job where you can start networking. Ask questions to see if there is a lot of work in the area in these fields if they are looking for people with skills.

Earning is often skill based so consider what way you could go with this.
I didn’t know what to do and the retail corps I worked at thought highly of me so I went into management for some years until I found something better.

I feel like a criminal justice degree could translate into other positions outside of law enforcement. I didn’t major in it though so I could be wrong. If you’re open to administrative work you could look into any centers or charities that cater to crime prevention or crisis intervention. If you live near major hospitals systems sometimes they have victim medical programs. Even if if it’s not something you’d want to do long term it gets you into the 9-5 world and out of retail. Eventually you build a wide variety of skills working administrative positions

    Edited for typos
