you’re not dumb, college is just super rigid and kinda sucks if your brain doesn’t match it. look at dental assistant, medical assistant, phlebotomy, CNA to LPN, dispatch, courier, union trades, apartment maintenance, mailroom to admin. all hit that range with time, even more. hardest part now honestly is just how trash the job market is

Trades are great for making that and more but you will pay with the wear and tear on your body.

first start better trying to improve the framing you have around yourself. how you talk to yourself matters. the rest will fall into place from there.

If you work at Burger King, you can make more than that eventually inside the store. The CEO of Rita’s (on undercover boss) started at Burger King, worked up to manager, got an MBA and was in the c-suite before she left for Rita’s. Don’t count yourself out and aim higher than $20 an hour.

TSA worker or DMV employee, without knowing you… I can almost guarantee you’re smarter than any of them.

Sometimes you dont need to feel like a bachelor’s will solve your issue. As others have said try a trade or government jobs if you do not want to go back to traditional schooling, and have the acceptable level of experience to make up for the education requirements.
However, I am a few years older than you but felt the same at that age. Your confidence may not allow you to believe it but you are more than capable to achieve higher education, if you wish, and overcome your math insecurity. An associates degree would feel more achievable and your math barrier would not be a problem because the curriculum is designed for you to be successful and pass.
My degree is in the arts and I was never confident in math but I passed my requirement with an A and that was with me working full time. I can DM you if you have questions.

Can you not do a degree that doesn’t involve maths?

Check out serving. I graduated with a stats degree before COVID, but after that I recently go into serving at this amazing restaurant. It’s so fun, and the money is really good. I’m around 60-70k and work like 30hrs a week. If I pick up shifts that number can increase. Depending on what gig you find, it can be very lucrative

Water and wastewater plant operator. The math is 8th grade.
Most government civil service jobs pay in that range and dont require a degree. Union benifits , great time off and retirement after 20 yrs.
Google civil service test openings near me or call your county and city and ask where you can find civil service test opening listings.

There are a lot of allied health 2 year degrees that start 60k-80k.

My side gig is doing stretch therapy at a massage studio and all the massage therapists here make that, usually in the 50k-60k range, a few make 90k or up (they do home visits/ lots of hours). I’ll always recommend it despite the decent turnover rate, it’s common to last a decade or less. I make about 30 an hour doing stretch, and upside is working less hours, downside is the physical labor.

One of my coworkers does massage then goes to school at night, for others it’s their entire career. Just an option I think a lot of people don’t even think of 🙂
