İş yok eğitim yok, kendimi bulmaya çalışıyorum
Herkese merhaba,
3 yıl önce ben (M22) üniversiteye başladım, 1. sınıf oldukça iyiydi ve bir ders dışında iyi notlar aldım, ancak ailemdeki mali zorluklar ve gerçekten kötü seçimler nedeniyle son 2 yıldır hayatımda aslında hiçbir şey yapmadım.
Yazın çalışırdım ve üniversitede dolaşırken arkadaşlarıma okulda olmadığım halde aslında okulda olduğumu söylerdim.
Geriye dönüp baktığımda, okulun 1. veya 2. yılından sonra evime yaklaşmak ve düzenli bir iş bulmak veya bir teknoloji okuluna gitmek için açıkça bir değişiklik yapmam gerekirdi. Ama yapmadım ve alkolden sarhoş olmadığım zamanlarda uyanık olduğum her saniye beni tüketiyor.
Beni hala destekleyen ve mali durumu 2 yıl öncesine göre daha iyi olan ebeveynlerim olduÄŸu için çok ÅŸanslıyım, ancak kendime karşı gerçekçi olmaya çalışıyorum, evet bana yardım ederlerdi ama kendime “kimse seni kurtarmaya gelmeyecek” demeye çalışıyorum ama bu kafama oturmuyor.
Bahar evime yaklaşırken bir devlet üniversitesine gitmek için bir planım var ama sadece üniversitedeki değil evdeki tüm arkadaşlarımın arkasında olduğum hissinden kurtulamıyorum. Oda arkadaşlarıma/arkadaşlarıma (hem okulda hem de evde) 2 yıldır berbat olduğumu nasıl açıkladığımdan bahsetmiyorum bile.
Kendimden başka suçlayacak kimsem yok ama 22 yaşında olduğumu da düşünüyorum. Hala çözüp 2-3 yıl içinde mezun olabilirim. Ancak aklımın bir kısmı da bunun sadece bir başa çıkma mekanizması olduğunu düşünüyor.
Gerçekten nereye başvuracağıma dair hiçbir fikrim yok, bir terapiste gitmek ve içkiyi sınırlamak iyi bir ilk adım ama sadece yapmam veya düşünmem gereken başka bir şey olup olmadığını merak ediyorum.

You are not behind. Plenty of people restart later and still build solid lives. Owning up takes guts. Most avoid it and keep pretending. You’re already turning the wheel so just keep driving.
You are not behind. Enroll at a community college next year (Spring 2026) and fill out your FAFSA. Since you will be 23 next year, you will need to add your parents’income information so that they can use that to see how much aid you will get. But, when you fill out your FAFSA for the following academic year (Fall 2027 – Spring 2028), you will be an independent student since you will be 24 and you won’t need to put your parents’ income information (you will get your maximum aid if you are still a low income person). Use this to your advantage, get your associate degree and then transfer to a 4-year university to get your bachelor’s degree. Your aid will cover up to 6 years of free tuition (12 semesters – full time student) so that you can get your education straight.
Age is just a number. I graduated from high school when I was 19, I took a gap year, and enrolled in college when i was 21.
You don’t owe anyone any explanation…You can just tell them you took a gap year since money was tight and that’s it.
Stop drinking because it won’t resolve your problems. Once you enroll in college, go to counseling, which is free for students. Use the tutoring/learning center if you need help with your homework and go to your prof’s office hours. You have time to catch up now, just don’t chicken out when you start taking your 300 level courses because you don’t have anymore room for any mistakes. Stick to the major you will pick and make sure it’s something you are passionate about and ready to do the work (no cutting corners) – no more drinking or drug or $ex or nonsense party.
Right after your 2nd year, look for an internship right away that lines up with your major.
I work with a team of contractors that help dozens of internet service providers across the US upgrade folks on old internet tech to newer, fiber internet tech. Often the last time our clients had a meaningful upgrade to their internet infrastructure was 30 years ago when they moved on from dial-up! And usually they’re paying the same if not well beyond what we would charge! So it’s easy to teach folks how fiber internet adds value.
There’s endless ways to make money in the gold rush as fiber internet replaces cable internet. I personally make great money traveling in person and doing field sales where I knock on residential and business doors to make sales. We also have plenty of SMB sales reps who do what I do but inside over the phone or email, etc. Another popular way to make money is to create ads to either generate sales or recruits.
I like my work because there are no bosses, no expectations. People who are good at their job and don’t need much oversight excel with the way our company is arranged. You work as much or as little as you want, and there are no mandatory meetings or metrics. You just do you.
