   The problem with 99% of these communities is they have a lack of leadership. They fail to foresee the future and take steps to get in front of the problems. A single person can’t fix it, unless they have a lot of money. You can look at successful towns and unsuccessful towns (think of a couple and look them up on Wikipedia). When you get to demographics, the successful ones usually have increases in population and the unsuccessful one a decrease in population. I’ve seen it where towns are a mere couple miles a part and one shrinks by 50% and the other increases by 50%. The difference being that people want to move to one and move away from the other. Reasons can include a vibrant downtown, crime (or lack of crime), whether one feels rundown, jobs, feeling of community, etc.
   It really affects the younger people the most. Two kids grow up together. One stays in town and takes a job locally. The other goes to college and graduates. The one that stayed has never lived anywhere else. The one that goes to college has lived somewhere else and has also probably traveled more. So the question becomes does the college kid return to his hometown after graduating? Probably not and the population continues to shrink.

   Don’t put the weight of fixing an unjust world on your shoulders.

   Explore any topic that you feel drawn to.

   If you can, find someone like a business owner who’s facing a problem, and try to understand their problem. The world can be complicated, so be prepared to tolerate there being a tangled web of issues between you and your goal or the problem you’re trying to solve.

   Believe in your ability to think for yourself. Practice not getting frustrated or exasperated when it seems like there is no solution. Try to categorize the different proficiencies and skill sets (broad categories) so that you can first build an understanding of what’s out there, what you enjoy and what you may want improvement in.

   Be adaptable, you’re only 18 now. What you do for the next 7 years doesn’t have to be what you do with the rest of your life.

   Don’t limit yourself. You don’t need to be a math whiz to learn to work with technology. You just have to be very patient and consistent with asking the right questions to build your understanding. No matter what you do, you will be able to support causes you believe in with your time & money. If you want the gift of being aligned with your craft, you need to brainstorm and explore. Use the internet and AI to find information
