Bartending or serving, but it’s not going to be easy to find a place that will give you the premium shifts if you’re only willing to work 20 hrs a week

The only thing I can think of quickly is a dental hygienist, but I don’t know what the demand is for that. Nursing at a practioner level could probably get you there at some point as well. But I think the healthcare industry as a whole is so short staff everyone is overworked and burnt out no matter the position.
Most warehouses do 10-12 hour shifts 3-4 days a week and could easily get you to $50,000 a year at least here in the Midwest. I know that’s still 40 hrs a week but it more days off, which in my opinion still feels like more free time.

lol no. Not in this day and age. Not without significant experience or an insanely niche field or trade.

Maybe you’re 16.. if that’s the case you can prob survive off 10-20 hours a week.

Or..adjust standards and expectations. Homeless people make do with little income. If you can condition yourself to living without permanent shelter, a vehicle or most amenities you can probably ‘survive’ off ten hours a week working almost any job just not very comfortably.

Aside from that if it were available you’d see other people doing it, there would likely be a very high barrier to entry. Don’t you think we’d all be working ten hours a week if we could?

    Edit: become an “entrepreneur”

If you’re in the United States at least, it’s hard to work less than 40 hours (sometimes 30-35 depending on the job or the state) and still qualify for good employer sponsored health insurance. Also the companies will often pay less to hourly workers.

But this thread has most of the exceptions I can think of, that answer your question: https://www.reddit.com/r/careerguidance/comments/13wa9ff/what_are_some_careers_with_a_high_hourly_rate_but/

Other options for maximizing your time are looking for jobs or careers that are 40 hrs but are remote, hybrid, short commute, and/or generous vacation time. Like I work 40 hours but having one day work from home and a decent amount of sick and vacation time makes it feel better.

If you live in a cheap area and have roommates it’s possible to work 20-30 hours.

This is what most mothers do. You can look up jobs for mothers. This will help you find decently paying flexible jobs.

One thing you can do part time is nursing but it’s a lot of work.

Maybe not exactly your answer, but I’m currently looking into the Merchant Navy… once qualified you’re typically on ships for a few months at a time, then you have a few months off doing absolutely nothing, or whatever you want.

Comparing that to my last 6 years of working 9-5, it sounds pretty bliss. Opportunity to travel, both while working or not.

Also, while wages may seem average, a lot of the time they are tax exempt if you stay out the country for long enough (that is UK, not sure where you’re from).

You could luck into a role in finance or something where people forget you exist and you have little to no work…but that’s super rare and usually happens after a bunch of managers leave lol.

To answer this… idk where to start honestly. Are you gen z? What’s up with people demanding 6 figure salaries without the responsibility that comes with it?

Yeah a part time job. May not be enough to live on though.

I support your desire for that type of job, regardless of how obtainable it would be or not. This whole concept of having to work a 40-hour work week has never appealed to me. And that 40-hour work week is probably closer to 50 when you include commute times and time spent preparing for week each day.

And then you get two measly days per week to unwind, relax, and just enjoy life — but the last day off is not fully enjoyable because it precedes the return to work day (which means you can’t stay out late or travel extensively or just stay up late doing whatever because you have to get up early the following day and start that whole miserable process over again). So, in reality, you get one full, complete day off per week that isn’t impacted by having worked that day (Friday) or having to prepare for the following day (Sunday).

Business development or account executive (basically corporate sales) would be an option if you want more ‘freedom’ with your time. It’s not total freedom (still a lot of work), but it’s likely that you can control your schedule.
And with time, once you build enough skills and experience, it’s possible to achieve the level of salary you thought of ($100k).
