   joining a labor union. you’ll get licensed in a construction trade – examples are electrician, carpenter, millwright, pipefitter, etc. – while being paid to work.

   it would be done through an apprenticeship which may have classroom hours along with the labor. an apprenticeship working towards some type of license is usually hard work and low pay but it’s an option. if it is a high paying career getting in is more competitive and the next open apprenticeship slot could be a year or more away. some will rank people waiting to get into an apprenticeship by test scores, like electricians. details are specific to each union so it would be best to just talk to the union hall if you’re curious. and to join their subreddit obviously.

   I googled labor unions in washington state, you have a few union halls there. it’s a walk in and apply situation, if you are able-bodied, can pass a urine test, and can do basic math you’ll most likely be hired. google “labor unions” then the map it will say the name of the labor union, “local” and then 3 digits – that is a union hall, basically their office. for example, liuna local 252. i saw several liuna and laborer’s union halls when i googled it a second ago.
