I(26) recently had a change of heart and realized I didn’t want to work in the field I got my degree in. It definitely was a hard decision to make and was hard for me to accept but with time I was able to choose a totally different career that aligns with my lifestyle goals (voice court reporter). Ask yourself what’s the type of life you want to live? If you feel like you have no passion then think about a job that suits your interests and personality. You’ve got to lean toward some area of interest (math, sciences, law, medical, hands on etc) A job doesn’t have to be something you’re super passionate about. A job doesn’t have to be your ultimate definition of success. Stop worrying about making the “right” decision. You’ll only know if you like a job if you try it. Trying things out will get you closer to a decision rather than not making any steps toward one. I took some community classes on things I thought I would be interested in. That didn’t work out. When I stopped putting so much pressure on a decision I came across a job that will be quick to learn (a trade) and suits my introverted personality that’s more into English and law. Will I enjoy the job? Hopefully. But if not, that’s okay! That’s life. You can always pivot.
Any action will get you closer. Get out of your head and start doing/trying.

for a long time I thought “nothing interests me” meant there was something wrong with me. like everyone else got a memo about passions and I missed it. turns out, at least for me, it wasn’t lack of interest. it was burnout mixed with pressure. when you keep asking yourself “what should I do with my life” every day, everything starts to feel flat.

I tried the quizzes, the imagining different futures, talking to people. same result. blank. what slowly helped was dropping the idea that something had to click. I stopped looking for excitement and started noticing neutral things. what didn’t drain me. what I could tolerate without resentment. that sounds depressing, but it actually gave me more clarity than chasing passion ever did.

reading helped shift my mindset too. books like man’s search for meaning or the second mountain made me realize that purpose isn’t always some internal fire. sometimes it comes later, after you’ve built a bit of stability or contribution.

writing things down mattered more than thinking. when it stayed in my head, everything felt the same. on paper, patterns showed up slowly. not answers, just direction. I also used career-purpose.com. at some point, mostly to organize my thoughts when I felt stuck in circles. it didn’t tell me what to be, it just reflected things back more clearly. sharing it in case it helps.

you’re not behind. you’re just very aware. that’s uncomfortable, but it’s not a failure. a lot of people “choose” something just to stop the anxiety, not because it fits. take it easy on yourself. not knowing yet doesn’t mean you won’t.

I’m 24. I’m also exactly in the same spot. I talked to chatgpt about everything and then took career counseling from it. It suggested to me various paths I’m currently collecting information about the same. You can also try the same if you feel so.

I’m 25 myself and still have no idea what I want to do with my life either. I’m working a regular job right now and don’t feel fulfilled in the slightest. Getting a new job won’t help me with that either.
