Authority alone isn’t enough – context is everything
The linking page needs to be indexed, crawlable, and topically relevant to yours. A DA 90 site linking from their “random links” footer page won’t move the needle. But a DA 30 niche blog linking from within relevant content? That’s gold
Also check if those referring articles are actually indexed in Google. Many guest posts sit on low-quality pages that never get crawled
lots and lots of factors involved. you will never really have an answer as Google doesn’t reveal the inter workings of the algorithm that ranks pages.
All backlinks work, the thing is that all of them work differently. I won’t go into extreme cases like horribly crappy links from sites with malware, gambling, or stuff like that, let’s just say regular backlinks.
If your website has backlinks from a so-so website, the algorithm value placed on those links will be low.
If you get one backlink from a great website (say NYT), your website will jump some positions, as simple as that.
Of course, I’m talking about extremes, and you won’t get a NYT link just like that, it’s just for the sake of an example. The point is that 100 links from your neighbor’s blog won’t make a dent against a single NYT link.
If you’re getting links yet they don’t affect your positions, chances are:
1. your competitors are getting the same or more link value
2. the links you got are low quality
Remember, Google is just a very complex algorithm, so to move the needle you will need to improve different areas of that algorithm, and backlinks are a very important one. If you can’t get better links, try to improve other areas, the Google algo has 14,400 variables, so I’m sure you may find something to improve. And if someone tells you that links are the only way, don’t pay attention, they’re probably link sellers (then again, good backlinks are the easier and faster way, I won’t deny it)
