1. Homepages tend to pick up most backlinks and be the root of authority. Not always though – well optimized sites sometimes see just 10% of traffic landing on the home page from Google
2. You could NoIndex it
3. It wount do any harm to let it get indexed
4. It could however make the other pages more difficult to rank at the start but also it would be more difficult to move
You can always undo it
