Funny, because last week someone was complaining that Ahrefs was more accurate than SEMrush.
Its an estimator, not a replacement for GSC….
Firstly it only uses data for “known” keywords shipped via Google Ads using their monthly traffic estimaor – NOBODY has access to real data UNLESS you rank for it or buy ALL of it via PPC.
Secondly tehy use a basic algorithm : Average Monthly traffic * CTR_of_rank_position.
Any keyword tool ever is a best guess.
It’ll tell you that more people search for puppies than dogs.
But to use it as a reporting or business metric is dangerous.
They have a genuinely good team of people on the product. But just like the weatherman, they can’t tell you the forecast outside your own front door. Only you can
There data gets worse and worse.
Their price goes up and up.
The way they “license their data” is straight up abusive.
The way they treated people who promoted them is just a slap in the face.
It sucks, I used to be excited to refer people to them.
