26/27’de mezun olmaktan çok kötü hissediyorum ve kendimi aşmaya devam ediyorum.
24 yaşındayım. Bazı sağlık sorunları nedeniyle, 21 yaşında üniversiteye başladım. Hazırlık yılı da dahil olmak üzere 3 yıldır okuyorum ve şimdi Makine Mühendisliği’nin 3. yılındayım. En iyi senaryoda 26’da mezun olacağım. Ayrıca Erasmus’a devam etme hayalim var, çünkü her zaman Avrupa’yı dolaşmak istedim. Ancak Erasmus sırasında aldığım kurslar kendi üniversiteme transfer olmazsa, mezuniyetim daha da ertelenecek. Bu beni gerçekten üzüyor. Zaten hayatımın bittiğini hissediyorum. Çıkışın bir yolu yokmuş gibi tuzağa düşmüş hissediyorum. Zaten her şeyde geride kaldım mı? Sanırım benden daha kötü bir durumda çok az insan var. Kendimden utanıyorum ve aileme yük olmaktan utanıyorum. Sizce ne tür bir yol almalıyım? Erasmus’tan vazgeçmeli miyim?

Most people don’t even graduate college.
There are reasons your plans were delayed.
Beating yourself up is just delaying you further.
Imagine the part of your brain voicing the criticism and shush it. Do the gesture and sound and everything. Do that anytime it spouts off.

I graduated at 28 and now I’m about to graduate again with a masters at 41. It’s never ever too late to go for what you want. I feel I’m behind too sometimes, but we all have our own path in life. If I were you, I would not give up Erasmus. I would still do it. A few years wont make a difference. When I graduated at 28, some employers like that I was more mature and had “life experience”. Your life is just starting and it’s never ever too late to start your life all over again.

Don’t beat yourself up for this. The Erasmus thing is an awesome experience. That’s worth a lot.
I literally graduated with my bachelor’s at 26 and am now attempting a career change at 32 which requires me to go back to school. I’ll probably be 34 by the time everything is stable on my end educational wise (I have to obtain a masters minimum).
When obtaining my bachelor’s, I also saw a woman in her 60’s taking an art class in my school library at one point. I peered over a bit and saw she had a whole class schedule and she was a full time student going for her associates at that time (saw her class number on her schedule).
My advice, no one cares what age you get it done but, you’ll be that age regardless so may as well make the most of it.
honestly, 26 isn’t late at all, you’re just comparing yourself too hard. life doesn’t really run on one timeline, even if it feels like it when you’re looking at friends or family. i graduated later than i “should have,” and not a single employer or person in my life cared. what did matter were the experiences i got along the way. if erasmus has been your dream, go for it, travel and perspective at that age can shape you way more than rushing a diploma by a year. mechanical engineering is already a tough path, so give yourself some credit for pushing through with health challenges too.
I used to have the same thoughts about my college. I used to compare myself to my piers who are graduating and getting into their careers and think I was in a bad position.
It’s all about perspective. Since I didn’t start college till late, I became an independent student on FAFSA qualifying for way more aid. Now I’m able to get my bachelor’s fully covered by Pell grants, and graduate debt free.
If I were to tell myself “I’ll graduate when I’m 28-29” that would seem disappointing, however if I were to tell myself “I’ll graduate at 28-29 but with no debt” all of a sudden, I feel like I’m in a better spot than my piers who have loans.
A change in perspective can make you feel way more comfortable than you otherwise would imo.

Honestly though your situation (graduating from engineering at 27) is so devoid of complication to me that I’m not actually sure what you’re worried about. Earning potential? I’ll make that assumption.
As a prospective employee (eg you) it doesn’t matter much if you’re 25 or 27. Companies will see you as pretty much the same dude. Leverage your strengths (maturity… your health situation is valuable life experience now) and do your best in whatever role you find yourself in.
I’m 40ish now it just doesn’t matter that I started at 25 instead of 23 or 27. So much money and life experience comes and goes every year that a couple years are just tiny ripples inconsequential when compared to what you studied and other choices or opportunities you have along the way.
Worried about money? Understand vehicles are a depreciating asset and always spend less on them than your peers. Open a free brokerage account and start putting $50 into an ETF that tracks the SP500 or NASDAQ. Just knowing how to do that means when you start making bank you know what to do with money. I just made future you wealthy. You’re welcome.
You’re doing great. Never beat yourself up for doing something to better yourself. Life isn’t a race, you don’t have to finish everything at the same time as everyone else.
