“Beyaz yaka” iÅŸinden ayrılmayı öğrenebileceÄŸim bir ticaret var mı?
Uzun yıllardır beyaz yaka işlerini iyi bir şekilde ödemek için çalışıyorum ve yakın zamanda işten çıkarıldım. Ücret harika olsa da, bu işler inanılmaz derecede sıkıcı ve tatmin edici değildi. Esasen şirketlerin daha fazla para kazanmasına yardımcı olmak için bilgiyi zorluyordum. Ayrıca, kapitalistler AI ile yaptığım işin yerini altıkça gelecekte iş bulmanın benim için daha zor olacağını düşünüyorum.
Uzun lafın kısası, 40’lı yaÅŸlarındaki bir adamın akla gelebileceÄŸi ve bir iÅŸe dönüşebileceÄŸini merak ediyorum. Ãœzücü kısım, evin etrafındaki ÅŸeyleri düzeltmek için harika deÄŸilim, bu yüzden gerçekten sıfırdan baÅŸlayacağım. Daha az para kabul etmeye hazırım, ancak bu noktada gerçekten bir ticaret öğrenebileceÄŸim mümkün olup olmadığından emin deÄŸilim. Ä°yi bir seçenek olabilecek belirli bir ticaret varsa, bilmek isterim.

I think at your age, the main thing would be trying to avoid any heavy lifting. What about something niche like watch repair or jewelry? One of my good friends from school became a jeweler, and he loves it.
I knew a guy who was a retired IBM executive working at a tire shop because he was bored. Always sent my car to him for alignments and I’d chat with him about how the car scene was, which he felt was better in the 90s. Just look into something you enjoy if you want to get into trades.
Find a tank building company in your area and ask to be a helper in the field. You will start at the bottom but if you ask a lot of questions and work hard you will learn how to weld and become a tank builder. If that isn’t possible in your area find a fab shop that may need helpers and start there. Find a welding school and take night classes. Mig and fluxcore are pretty easy to learn and start welding at a fab shop to get experience.
A 40-year-old helper will be competing with a 20-year-old but as long as you show up every day and don’t call out you should move up fairly fast. You don’t have to join a union if you don’t want to.
You could locate an NDE company and be a helper on an X-ray truck and get into inspection. Also, look into refractory companies, they are always looking for new hires. They need hole watches and fire watches.
Maybe get a TWIC card and OSHA 10 & 30 card. This will help you get your foot in the door to work in refineries and other plants.
Have you considered the medical tech/care route?

You can learn something, sure. Auto repair, roofing, plumbing, welding, HVAC, anything. But can you physically handle it? I worked in auto shops and the 25 year olds had back and joint issues that most people don’t get till They’re 50.
Plus, a new guy is gonna make on average about $14 an hour in most places. Even the dealership apprentice techs I worked with made about $15 an hour.

Would you be financially secure without working? I started working for my neighbor flipping houses at 18. I never went in to run my own business consistently, so I did well, but never saved up enough money to retire. I worked in a factory and drove a box truck for a while, but those jobs were incredibly boring.
At 37, I’m a house husband, and my body is too beat up to go back into construction, but I’m able to fix most things around the house because of everything I’ve learned. I had so much fun doing construction work and it was very rewarding. If you’re able to survive with making ends meet for a while, I’d like apply at small companies and learn as much as possible. Before I took electrical courses I learned to do electrical work because one of the GCs I worked was an electrician.
Electrician is easier on the body and pays well. Finish carpentry is really easy on the body, but requires much more pracrice than framing. You can also do robotics which I had a stint in. I installed giant welding robots and lifted them off trucks with a forklift, but there are guys who program them as well.
Crane and heavy equipment operator are also options.
Sorry but these posts are insulting. The trades aren’t a fall back option. Willing to accept less money? You might want to come to terms more with that. With no experience you are looking at minimum wage or close to it. A union apprenticeship is what you’d want but those take years to get into, and you’ll definitely be picked over and be the first to be let go if you have no previous experience working with your hands. Definitely do not quit your white collar career to be a green tradesmen in your 40s because you are bored. Extremely dumb move.
Lol the fact that you think a trade is a fall back plan is comical. The reason every single one of these posts are about “white collar” workers being laid off an unfulfiing, is because outside STEM, you desk jockey’s are a dime a dozen.
My company has NO problem finding accountants, controllers, HR, marketing, etc. Where we really struggle is finding quality maintenance personnel, machinists, and engineers that actually know how to use tools properly (SolidWorks wizards, but don’t know how to use an adjustable wrench).
If you can’t fix anything around the house, you are lights years behind even the most junior in critical thinking, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills.
I’m not saying this to discourage you, but with the attitude you have right now regarding the trades, you’re not gonna make it.
Go start off working apartment complex maintenance. Fix some refrigerators, air conditioners (outside the sealed refrigerant system), and some outlets, and see if it’s for you l.
