301. Takes weeks and months to carry over

2-8 weeks?? lol
If it’s a big site expect atelast a few months
Who cares about Ahrefs DR? That is meaningless. Search engines don’t look at it and it should not be a KPI of your migration.
I’ve seen migrations take anywhere from about 7-10 days to 4-6 weeks to carry over.
I’ve never been part of a migration where we saw a significant traffic drop, and the ones we did see recovered quickly.
Make sure you do 301 redirects of each URL to their corresponding new URL. Do not change content. Keep all your content the same. Changing content just introduces extra variables into the mix.
The biggest biggest biggest thing – is the redirect mapping.
Every site migration will see volatility and traffic impacts – but the more complicated the migration – the risk goes up – with every added variable — i suggest all the time and effort go into a strategic – tactical pre-planning phase – right up to launch – with the redirect mapping being the most critical thing.
you are giving new signals to google and I would suspect volatility to last a good month or two and then settle down and stabilize.
But the drop and if it recovers back to pre migration levels will depends on how well the migration goes – and if there are any issues how quality they are fixed.
Every migration i have been apart of – one – nothing goes to plan two – they take longer usually than people suspect three – things go wrong – not one of them will perfect.
traffic dip for a few weeks is normal, usually settles in 1-3 months if redirects are done right. do 1:1 301 redirects for every page (not all to homepage), use the change of address tool in GSC, and keep the old domain redirects live forever. DR will come back slowly as ahrefs picks up the redirects, so dont panic about that number
Since you’re moving off a subdomain, verify that subdomain as its own Search Console property and run the change of address from there. Also map the app, login and docs URLs separately in your redirects. Those usually live on other hosts and are easy to miss in a 1:1 list.
Yes, it affects rankings for a few weeks. Some Big websites have migrated and successfully regained all their traffic.
