You’re not getting a data analyst job without a bachelor’s; that’s one of many roles that fell victim to oversaturation in tech. Medical assistants fall well below your required entry level pay, as do phlebotomists. Which basically leaves you with the option of rad tech. However, that’s going to require pre-reqs, and then a 2 year degree, so 3-4 years, depending on how long it takes to get your pre-reqs done and if you get into a program on your first try. You’re also going to need to get good grades in science pre-reqs, which I’m mentioning since your comment says you got Bs and Cs in math and science.
Opportunities for pay growth on the level you’re outlining will require experience and/or a bachelor’s. Experience and further education is also how you “maximize” salary opportunities.
I think you need to either realign your expectations, or reconsider a 4 year degree.
If it helps, more info:
Some things about me:
– Location: California (ideally would want to stay here or nearby. Willing to travel)
– Education history: Some bachelors progress but no degree – dropped out of college because of life
– Work experience: no paid work experience in the last 2-3 years
– Previous work experience was customer service related in high turnover companies/areas (restaurants, gyms, etc.
Now what:
– Why am I looking now? I’ve allowed the negatives to drag me to hell and I am ready to lock-in and gain my independence. I need money for savings and an emergency fund ASAP. I want money to be able to afford low cost social activities and not hide from my friends anymore.
– I am starting over and searching for careers (not HVAC or similar that will cost me my body) that do not require a 4 year degree or specific experience (entry level)
– Skills: Math and Science – decent (B’s and C’s with clusters of A’s). Can carry light conversation in a few languages. Willing to learn. People person. MS Office & Google workspace apps. Currently attempting to learn new skills, sharpen old ones, and also obtain various free online certificates.
– I want to spend a minimum of 3 (ideally 5-10) years with this job. I hope that it will give me career clarity or provide the experience and network for my next steps. I will consider obtaining a BS degree once I am able to address my financial needs and (some) wants. Also, if education reimbursement is offered.
[Potential Major Expenses within 5-10 years from now]
Dependents:
No Kids (ever). Pets: about $3-4k/ year for me now
Transportation:
I want two cars –
1. Current (paid off, beat up sedan, decent on gas, insurance is like $120 or less a month) for local traffic (pet transport, gig work, errands, volunteer, or developing car service skills)
2. car: looking to get a (certified) used Toyota, Honda, or Subaru truck/suv for long drives to work or road trips in rough terrain.
Housing/Rent:
[Depends on whether I travel for work or stay local to my area] Can be as low as free + utilities, 12K, 18K, or 30K. I have no plans on paying more than 3K for rent everrrrr
Entertainment:
I do not want to spend more than 5K a year (including international trips).
WELLNESS:
I cannot go without health or dental insurance. So, I need a career that offers decent (spectacular) coverage.
SAVINGS:
I would like to save at least 10k a year. And have more than 30k saved before pivoting careers.
Same age. Same problems.
I had Desktop Tech Support offers on LinkedIn before to work in San Fran for $90-100k.
I declined cause in don’t live in CA.
