`visibility:hidden` –> content is in page, and readable. If Google finds no mechanism to show it (some JS, some media query) Google will ignore it.
`display:none` –> Google will ignore it completely

Yes. But it could also have a negative impact. To Google it could look like you are trying to hide something to manipulate rankings.
Google only ranks based on visible text. Even a tiny font gets ignored.
