Its legal but how you use it may get you in trouble.
Obviously MacDonald could represent a wide range of uses…. But how trademark owners respond could be different. I think.

Technically speaking it’s not illegal, but may fall under the cybersquatting law in the USA.
The biggest issue is that McDonald’s would (or could) file a UDRP because the intent of the domain (and it’s use) falls under “in bad faith”, in that the domain was registered “in bad faith”, and the usage of it (the content) proves that it’s being used “in bad faith”.
If it’s a competitor using that domain and a site, then someone may file an abuse report with Google Adsense as well as the web host to get it taken down. Depending on the domain registrar, the registrar may also lock the domain after getting an abuse report.
McDonald’s could also just sue you–other big brands have been known to do this, there’s one case I know of in particular (the blackrock case) where Blackrock sued about 50 domain owners and won judgements for $50,000 each ($50k per domain).
