Most audits will just be error checks – because Web Devs believe in a cult of “great code = Great SEO”
You’re going to need to identify what SEOs can help you – because its going to be in a handful of people.
You need to detail what happened, when and you’re going to need recommendations. This isn’t a case of – you left a button unticked or you have a broken sitemap.
There’ll be a lot of people ready to make a lot of claims.

I think what you are really looking for is a consultant. Someone who can come in with a second set of eyes on the project.
They can certainly “audit” the work that has been done, but when you say audit in the context of SEO, it usually means performing an audit of the website looking for technical issues, which may, or may not, need to be done.
I know because I work with a lot of agencies in this capacity.
Sent you a chat request
I’m happy to do this for you for free if you are willing to post the results publicly (we can redact whatever you need to)
Sometimes it isn’t SEO per se, but being outmaneuvered by competitors. Sites heavily dependent on generic keyword queries are highly susceptible to this. How has the direct intent traffic trended? (that is people clearly looking for the site specifically)
Whether or not traffic is tanking, you should be focusing on providing value not just tracking traffic. Is the business getting more or less phone calls? Are more or less lead forms coming in? You could have traffic tank, but as long as the business is getting business, that’s what your client really wants.
Consider moving to better call tracking (ex: CallRail) if you don’t have any tracking of calls. Make sure conversions on the site are flagged as key events and tracking in Google analytics. Incorporate and use Microsoft Clarity to see what users who make it to the site are doing.
I would look at my Looker Studio SEO reports and see on which pages I am bleeding traffic.
You most likely are losing rankings on some pages, and this equates to loss in clocks / traffic.
Do you have such reports for this kind of analysis?
