Hi all. I’m a datahoarding noob here.
2-way mirror. 4x Hitachi 3TB drives with a 5th for a spare. Used on my main computer as large drive for everything except the OS (that’s on an NVME).
I got started years ago with Intel RST and hated it, moved to Storage Spaces without much thought or education in the matter because it seemed (and is) much better than Intel RST. However, when I initially set it up, I accidentally used fixed provisioning using all the space and now I need another partition that is not ReFS meaning I will have to format the drive and restore all data. Since I’m going through the effort, should I switch to DrivePool? The only con that I know of is that it doesn’t have ReFS file system which I’m not sure how important it even is.
Flaws I have with Storage Space is how unflexible and complicated it is and my read performance is not as good as I would expect. Individual hard drives are about 110MB/s and I only get about 200MB/s read speed using Crystal Disk. Will drive pool increase this (when possible) to split the reads across all 4 (or more later) drives?
