  2. the install instructions i’m not following I guess, i have never done motd change.
do I just drop these files into the /etc/update-motd.d directory ?

  3. do i need to do any modifications on my own server to use this code with ubuntu? will it automatically detect my services running?

  4. shodan says you have MariaDB exposed to the net – does that matter?

  5. I’m a very [simple man](https://anomaly.exposed/i/2018/05/04-19.11-kqg4.png) with my motd but I might actually add this and customize it for myself. Very nice.

Edit: [If you want my boneless pizza motd](https://anomaly.exposed/s/3H)

  6. Do the scripts run pretty quickly? I have a MOTD that fetches the current weather and it takes around 1s to return, it’s not bad but I can certainly notice it.

  7. How’d you get into building your own home server and what are the specs?

  8. Wow, that’s pretty sweet, I’ve always wanted to make my own super custom MOTD, but i’m a lazy sack of shit. At this point If something goes wrong with my home server, it’ll probably be broken for a day or two.

  9. For those wondering about the ascii-art font.

  10. A fellow ZoL user huh?

I’m using Arch so some of this wouldn’t apply to me. I just use *screenfetch* since it’s easy to setup, but doesn’t give me nearly as much info as your above script, which is pretty awesome.

Just checked out the code, looks really simply to mod (thanks!) so I may end up using this as well.

  11. Holy shit, one more item to add to the to do list. Nice work!

  12. Here is a motd script repo with all the scripts shown in the picture: https://github.com/Heholord/FalconStats

My server is running a Phenom II x6 1055T with 4x2gb ddr2 800mhz memory, that’s the last thing left to upgrade.

My raid setup is a raidz2 with 7x4TB Seagate consumer NAS disks, I also have a 60GB SSD partition I use for caching that pool.
I also have another 2TB disk that I use for cases where I don’t want to be writing to my raid setup, that’s also ZFS and is also cached.

Then the whole server and WAN box and router are connected to a APC smart 1500 UPS, so in the event of a power outage I have about two hours still running and still online.

It might not be the most ideal setup for a home server, I’d appreceate any tips for next time 🙂
