  1. The power cable for the drives has some interesting sleeving. Is it a code or hidden message? Or is it just a pretty pattern? Been staring at it a while now and can’t figure it out.

  2. the CPU cooler tho, its big, obnoxious and ugly…
    I want one

  3. nice where’s the pcpartpicker link or parts list in general and what os is it using

  4. How was the PSU cables connectors done? I LOVE the look!

  5. How do you monitor for drive failures?

Or is it ZFS or software raid or something

  6. Maybe I’m off base here but is it safe to run all of the drives off the one modded power lead?

  7. Nice work. Side note: last Wednesday, I drove by NZXT headquarters, in City of Industry (by accident) and decided to stop in, just to give them props. The guy who saw me shuffling around came by to talk to me and I told him how much I loved my h440 and wanted to get a kraken. Anyways, it turned out that that guy was the owner NZXT. I was blown away and I told him that he should somehow create an S340 that can house more drives. Guess he doesn’t need to do that anymore, lol.

  8. The cable management….has given me an erection. Beautiful

  9. Too much fashion over function imo, but definitely pretty.

  10. What did you have to do to mount all those glorious drives?

The s340 elite does not normally have those included I don’t believe.

  11. Holy crap, just the power plug connector costs about 100$….

edit: nvm, found them for cheap on Aliexpress.

  12. Looks really neat and tidy. I’m bothered by the lack of any exhaust fans. I highly suggest utilizing at least that top vent with a fan.

  13. Huh, I had a file server called Alice. I’d be kind of interested to see if it happened to be named after the same character…

  14. the serviceability sacrificed for looks… it’s as if apple designed it.

meh at the audiophile power cord, the random pattern of the sleeving between the drives, the pain in the ass to replace one drive, the 4tb drives, overkill on the motherboard, case, heatsink for a tiny server.

  15. What cooler is that? I though it was a shop vac filter at first! Very cool, I didn’t even know you could get passive heatsinks like that.

  16. It’s a beautiful build – but how do you get one disk out without powering down all the others? Or does it just not hot-swap?

  17. very stupid to have a fanless cpu cooler when you already have a lot noisier ( than a noctua proper cpu cooler ) drives and fans infront ( yeah i know fronts are also noctuas but they are the redux line which are noisier too )

  18. Pretty.

    Staggered spinup?

During a full stress test of all drives I’d probably want to point a thermal camera at the SATA power cables & crimps, just in case.
