  1. Don’t be scared off by this thread, someone who has had a drive fall is far more likely to say something about it.

  2. But they f*cked me on the 8TB I had entrusted to them!

Nope, get that head space back into Datahoarder mode. Blame myself for not backing up properly in my younger hoarding days (say it: 3-2-1!) when I relied on 4TB drives. Hoard 10x-100x more than I ever did before “the event”.
Read paper after paper saying Ironwolf must be trusted, because today is a new day and history is in the past.

I know data now says to do so, but trusting Seagate is a tall order.

  3. My dad was employee #12 and retired last year. Way to go Seagate

  4. And to think. 1.2 zettabytes are dead, because seagate sucks.

  5. Hope everyone backed up on hard drives that don’t suck.

  6. How many are in landfills and digital trash dumps in Africa?

  7. In the US the average internet speed is 50.2mbps which is 6.275MB/s. At a constant speed, and without interruptions, it would take 15,160,059.9 years to fill 3 Zettabytes of storage. In 2017 the average life expectancy in the US was 78.6 years. At 6.275MB/s it would take 192,876 lifetimes to fill 3 zettabytes of storage.

  8. So like ten years until that amount fits on a thumb drive?

  9. The amount of negativity in the comments here is toxic.

Subs really need to get away from this type of negativity, it pushes people away and spreads misinformation.

  10. If it wasn’t for all the RMAs they’d probably only be at 2 zettabytes…

  11. Do any of them last longer than a year? Fuck Seagate forever.

  12. For those wondering, that’s about 3 × 10²¹ Bytes / 10¹⁵ Megabytes /
    1,000,000,000,000 Gigabytes.

  13. “If you wanted 3 zettabytes of storage at home, you’d need to hook up 300 million 10TB hard drives.”
Yes okay, let me see what i got

  14. I wonder how long it took them to get to their first gig.

  15. I read this title as Seagate has now RMA’d 2 zettabytes worth of HDDs

  16. Yea, but how many are actually still alive/usable?:D

  17. And to think that there are a ton more hard drives and other media drives in the world that ultimately make up the internet… that is insane to me.
