I recently got a used QNAP TS-228 at a dirt cheap price. I know that it is not a Lamborghini and I just needa get moving.
Tested its speed it reaches a respectable ~40 MB/s for a continuous transfer on Windows Explorer(SMB?).
I am using Resilio Sync (which i had good experiences on my 2 PCs and phone) to transfer ~4TB of mixed sizes (from bytes size text files to disk image of hundred GBs) files to the NAS.
It is transferring 10-20MB/s for a second or 2 and drop to 0B/s for a second or 2. Guess this is due to small files which it finished loading a file and waiting for the next one.
The speed (10-20MB/s) is unexpectedly dropping gradually and it is not transferring anything around 10 minutes later.
Restarting the NAS or even restart the Resilio Sync app on NAS makes it starts transferring again and sustain for another 10 minutes.
What shall I do to make it keep transferring and preferably at a higher speed? Shall I try other software? Or is TS 228 incapable to do such backup?
I intend to use it as an offsite backup box by putting it at my work place and connect to wifi with WISP mode. Using Resilio Sync is easy on networking setup and can pause and resume the transfers (otherwise the large files will never complete transferring when i turn off my main PC when i go to work). I thought it was a perfect choice if it is working, but unfortunately it is not working.
