Hard Drive Sales: What options those of us not in the States/Canada have?

Given that many of the offers here seem to be from Bestbuy Easystore or just seems to be in US/Canada, what options does the average global user have? Apart from maybe the annual Black Friday/Xmas/New Year offers? Do those savings even make sense to ship internationally (if they’re even available for international shipping)?

  1. In my country, physical hard drives/external drives are so expensive. So, I signed up the 8Tb mega.nz plan with a affordable price. Is a good way while I wait the price of the physical
    drives goes down.

  2. In Australia I just buy anytime (1) WD elements externals and shuck them as they are usually plain label helium drives although they have the 3.3 Volt issue so I power them with molex adapters that only carry 5 and 12 Volt lines, or (2) if you’re not uncomfortable also running LSI SAS cards then used enterprise 4-6 TB SAS drives on Ebay can be bought very cheap but I’d recommend using them in something like a ZFS Raid-Z2 (Raid-6) array in case the odd drive failure occurs as they tend to have mid five digits worth of power on hours.

  3. That entirely depends on where you are and how much the drives locally cost there, and how much tax/duties are levied on imported goods. As for options, check to see if you have freight forwarders in your country. These are services that provide you with a local US Address and phone number where you have the goods delivered and they will send it to your address for a fee. Where I am in Asia, a 12TB drive costs $460 locally, so the savings to ship internationally (drive+shipping = $200 during Black Friday sale) is more than double.
