  1. Curious how you and others handle offsite backup. If something happens, is it all gone?

  2. Can you tell me a bit about servers you’re running on Arch Linux?

    – NFS or SMB for file shares? If NFS, then Kerberos for authentication?
    – Plex through AUR or docker?
    – Any other servers or services that is worth mentioning?

  3. I just joined this sub to get inspiration and ideas and this is AMAZING!!!

  4. Ahh young grasshopper. You are yet young and do not understand the ways of never ending upgrades.

  5. I have a similar 24-bay case that’s a Supermicro clone, the backplanes are 6 x individual SFF connectors instead of one connector with a SAS expander.

Works OK, but you don’t get the drive slot number info you would get with an expander and SES.

It’s filled with a mix of 8TB SAS and SATA disks, roughly 130 TB of usable space with ZFS.

I’m upgrading to one of these:

First set of disks will be 15 x 10TB HGST SAS 12gb/s disks.

  6. What’s the model number of this server? I’m looking for something similar

  7. First off, really nice. I mean it nice! How do you cool it? I read that you use heat sinc’s and I am guessing that you never really up it under load, but heat would be my worry.
All the same worth every penny you spent! Well done. ?

  8. And I’m content with a raspberry pi connected to an external drive and rsync….

  9. Any idea how much power that thing draws?

  10. … did you share this while on a zoom standup? because if not, my coworker did something similar.

  11. Very nice build. How is the noise of the case? Could you work in the same room or would it be too distracting?

What kind of RAID do you use for the hard drives, MDADM or BTRFS?

Why did you decide not to use ZFS (not that you should)?

Dual 2TB Samsung EVO Plus (RAID1 BTRFS) for the OS,
24x SAS3 10TB Seagate Exos RAID60 (4 parity groups, total usable is 160TB) on ext4 (external journal on a 2TB nvme drive) for data,
    Dual PCI-e 3.1 16x LSI SAS3616 HBA,
